We always have that one or several places that we go to that feel like home. Whether it's a resort, a hotel, a restaurant, or a cafe. The vibe that the place gives to us brings us back to the nostalgic days in the comfort of our homes.
One of my go-to places in Dumaguete is Bugtaw Cafe. Aside from the fact that it's located literally in front of my friends' apartment I love the homey feeling I get whenever I go into that place.
They offer very limited vegan options but I always and only get their Vegan Poke Bowl. But I have tried all their fresh juices. My friends also love their fresh juices because you really taste the natural flavors of vegetables and fruits. The Vegan Poke Bowl, has fried tofu, jicamas, pomelo, rice, and cucumbers.
Whenever we ran out of ideas about where to eat, we tend to eat there because it is accessible and we know already that the food is tasty and will be served on time. One thing about being in Dumaguete, it is almost impossible not to know someone when you go anywhere. So be prepared to say hi, or hello, or make conversations with friends and random people.
Back to Bugtaw, the word "bugtaw" is a Cebuano/Ilonggo word for wake up or awake. The cafe makes a perfect place for breakfast or brunch. The interior of the place is very simple but a perfect place to meet up with friends and grab a drink or food.
If you happen to be in Dumaguete, I highly recommend this place because it won't fail you and you might find people with great energy that could be your new friend.
