As usual, one of my duties as a wife is cooking for my husband every day, because my main job is a housewife
The morning I go to the market to buy groceries for our food inventory stock is up
In the market, i bought a lot of groceries, already I list in a note that I made before to the market
A trader offered Goldfish and i think should cook a dish. The dish called 'Arsik Goldfish'
Arsik Goldfish is a distinctively food of Batak people of North Sumatra
Actually arsik is not the stewing process, but for a long time Arsik Goldfish designed in such a way that can be easily cooked at home
'Arsik Goldfish' should be cooked with some distinctively elements of Batak are not to be missed as ‘Asam Cikala’ and Andaliman (Indonesian szechuan pepper)
Usually, stewing the arsik until the bone is soften and easily chewed such being cooked with high temperature.
There how to cook Arsik Goldfish and Ingredients used:
- 1Kg Goldfish, clean troughly
- 5 Asam Cikala
- 1 gram Andaliman
- 100ml Coconut Milk
- 500ml water
- 1 Tomatoes
- 10 lemongrass (clean and mashed)
- 1 Asam Kandis
- 1 kecombrang (sliced)
Ground spices:
- 6 Shallots
- 2 Garlic
- 1 Ginger
- 1 Turmeric
- Lime leaves
- 10 red chilli
- Andaliman
GROUND SPICES
How to cook:
- Blend the spices in a blender,
- Enter the fish into a wook pan with lemongrass
- Turn on the stove and fill in fine spices into the wook pan
- Wait for the water to decrease, put tomatoes, lime leaves, galangal and coriander powder and coconut milk
- Put salt and seasonings
- Arsik Goldfish ready to serve
Fun fact: Arsik Goldfish this is one dish that should be there in a big event Bataknese family because these foods are derived by the ancestors of the Bataknese

Seperti biasa, salah satu tugasku sebagai seorang istri adalah memasak untuk suami setiap hari karena pekerjaan utamaku adalah seorang ibu rumah tangga
Pagi hari aku pergi ke pasar untuk membeli bahan makanan karena stok persediaan makanan kami sudah habis
Dipasar aku membeli banyak bahan makanan, sudah aku list di catatan yang kubuat sebelum ke pasar
Seorang pedagang menawariku Ikan Mas dan ku langsung berfikit untuk membuat hidangan yaitu ‘Arsik Ikan Mas’
Arsik Ikan Mas adalah makanan khas suku Batak Sumatera Utara yang terkenal dengan ciri khasnya yang asam dan gurih
Sebenarnya Arsik ikan mas ini tidak melalui proses pembakaran, namun seiring berjalannya waktu Arsik Ikan Mas di rancang sedemikian rupa agar dapat mudah dimasak dirumah
‘Arsik Ikan Mas’ harus dimasak dengan beberapa elemen khas batak yang tidak boleh dilewatkan seperti Asam Cikala dan Andaliman.
Arsik Ikan Mas biasanya dimasak dengan waktu yang lama sehingga tulang dan dagingnya dapat dikunyah dengan mudah.
Berikut cara memasak Arsik Ikan Mas dan bahan-bahan yang digunakan:
- 1Kg Ikan Mas, bersihkan
- 5pcs Asam Cikala
- 1gr Andaliman
- 100ml Santan Peras
- 500ml Air
- 1 Tomatoes (potong 4)
- 10 lemongrass (bersihkan dan geprek)
- 1 Asam Kandis
- 1 Kecombrang (iris tipis)
Bumbu halus:
- 6 Bawang Merah
- 2 Bawang Putih
- 1 Ruas Jahe
- 1 Ruas Kunyit
- Daun Jeruk
- 10 red chilli
- Andaliman
GROUND SPICES
Cara memasak:
- Haluskan bumbu menggunakan blender
- Masukkan ikan kedalam panci yang sudah dialas dengan sereh, kemudian siram perlahan hingga ikan tenggelam
- Hidupkan kompor dan masukkan bumbu halus kedalam panci
- Tunggu hingga air susut, masukkan tomat, daun jeruk, lengkuas dan ketumbar bubuk, lalu masukkan santan
- Tutup panci hingga air menyusut, masukkan garam dan penyedap
- Arsik Ikan Mas siap di hidangkan di meja makan
Fun fact: Arsik Ikan Mas ini adalah salah satu hidangan yang harus ada di acara besar keluarga suku Batak karena makanan ini merupakan makanan yang diturunkan oleh nenek moyang suku Batak
