Hello everyone,
Lately I've gotten used to eating things without deep frying, frying with lots of oil. Little effect on me and my husband on weight, because we both really like fried food, a lot. Maybe that's why we've gained so much weight after 7 years of marriage. Just imagine, I gained 15 kg and my husband 30 kg. amazing isn't it?

It made me realize that living like that is quite bleak for health which hurts more and more, such as a sore waist and a headache, especially in the back of the neck. So, I decided to minimize all fried food and try to like real food.

God is very good with his creations, so many plants and animals create to be eaten properly by humans, all of which can be combined and become delicious and healthy food. Moreover, I live in Asia, with a variety of foods that are rich in spices and herbs. One of the advantages of being Indonesian.

Pepes, a unique type of dish, features spices, coconut and banana leaves that make this dish very fragrant. Especially when pepes is being grilled or steamed, this aroma is what makes this dish delicious. I think anything can be made into pepes, whether it's tempeh, tofu, fish, even mushrooms. All the side dishes will be more delicious and tasteful.

This morning, I went to the market and looked for fresh fish, I got 500 gr of mackerel (commonly called Kembung Fish). I got it for a pretty decent price, so I wanted to make this fish a different way, I usually fry it and it's pretty boring.

Pepes fish is quite interesting for me to make lunch today, because it's so rich in spices that my husband will definitely like it. So, with some spices and some banana leaves in my yard, I'm going to make a spectacular dish. Less oil of course.

How to make mackerel fish pepes;

  • For the first, you have to clean the banana leaves first, how to take a slightly damp cloth and then rub surface of the banana leaves slowly. Then, you have to roast the hazelnut first, so that the hazelnut gives off an aroma that can affect the seasoning.
