Making Japanese Bento for an Orphanage

There are so many blessings that God has given me this year. I have been given health, fitness, improved mental health and also a sense of happiness. Those blessings are things to be grateful for. There are many things that I can do very well this year.

Remembering one thing that is currently hot in Indonesia regarding free nutritious meals for school children, I am inspired. Reportedly, there is a government program that will be carried out next year to provide nutritious meals for all students in Indonesia, without exception. A good program but there are many pros and cons that occur.

I live in a fairly densely populated area but near here there is an orphanage not far from my house. Still one road and it is only 300 meters away. I intend to make nutritious food, one of which is my favorite, teriyaki from sliced ​​beef.

According to statistical data, Indonesia is a country whose people do not eat enough beef. Due to the high poverty rate and the purchasing power of meat that many people cannot afford. So, I really want to make the orphanage children happy with delicious meat.

I bought 3kg of sliced ​​beef to make a teriyaki menu later. I thought teriyaki was easy to cook, unlike making rendang which takes a long time. Teriyaki only needs a few ingredients such as:

  • Sliced ​​beef (3kg)
  • 500 gr Onions
  • 250 gr Red and green chilies
  • 200 ml teriyaki sauce

I mixed these ingredients in stages such as. Frying the sliced ​​chilies with 100 ml of vegetable oil. The chilies are removed and drained from the oil, after that, the onions are sauteed until fragrant.

Add the fried chilies again, so that the onions are not overcooked. Then add the sliced ​​beef on a fairly large frying pan. I changed the pan because the pan I used was not too big at the beginning, I didn't know that I would cook that much teriyaki.

I have prepared teriyaki sauce which has been mixed with several ingredients such as pepper, sugar and salt. Teriyaki has a dominant sweet taste compared to black pepper sauce.

All the ingredients are mixed and waited until the sliced ​​meat turns brown, a sign that the meat is perfectly cooked.

For vegetables, I use boiled vegetables from carrots, green beans and corn. Three types of vegetables with various colors so that the bento becomes very beautiful overall. Added with grapes that can make children like it even more. I also fried kanzler nuggets for additional protein.

Wrapped in an attractive container too, there is rice as the main source of carbohydrates. Rice is indeed a favorite source of carbohydrates in serving teriyaki.
