A few days ago, I helped my mother make her favorite Noga with coconut, ginger, and peanut. This food is never left behind to be one of the fillings in my mother's cake jar. In addition to the ingredients that are easy to get, making it is also not too difficult.

Ingredients:

  • Two pieces of Ginger (Grated)
  • One Coconut (Grated)
  • 1/4 Kg of Peanuts
  • Sugar
  • Banana leaf

Steps:

  • Grate coconut and ginger. If both are finished grated, roast the two ingredients until they are brown or until they give off a distinctive ginger aroma. Then wait until it cools down.

  • Roast peanuts over medium heat until cooked. If it feels cooked, let it cool for a while. Then clean the thin skin attached to the peanuts.

  • Melt the sugar over medium heat. While waiting for the sugar to melt, you can prepare the banana leaves on a cutting board.

  • If the sugar has melted, add the coconut, ginger, and nut mixture into it. For measurements, my mother instructed me to use a round spatula. Sugar and roasting ingredients each have the same measure.

  • Stir well. Keep stirring so the sugar doesn't harden.

  • When the banana leaf is ready, pour the hot mixture over the banana leaf. The use of banana leaves is intended so that the melted sugar does not stick when it is ground and leveled.

  • Cover the top again using another banana leaf. Then puree until it has the same thickness.

  • Before the sugar hardens, cut it into pieces and repeat the steps above until all the ingredients run out.

Here comes the finished Noga.

To make it. You need help and need more hands in the making. We share the job of making it. My job is to melt the sugar and mix the ingredients while my mother grinds and chops the mixture.

When I was little, I liked to eat candy made from melted sugar. Foods as simple as these can sometimes bring back childhood memories. This Noga has a savory, sweet, and slightly spicy taste when bitten. Even so, the dominant taste is the spicy taste of ginger. By the way, my mom named this food gingerbread just because she put ginger in it. However, this is a different food. Haha.

You can make it yourself if you're interested in following the steps. Have a nice day.
