I've been wanting to try out these cold granite rocks for my nightcap drinks for quite some time... I had actually bought some a few years ago, but I ended up giving them away as Christmas gifts instead. Sigh... and then every time that I meant to pick them up, I would forget about them.
The idea that you could keep your drinks cold without diluting them with the melted ice was pretty damn intriguing! It wouldn't dilute the taste, and the strength... but it would make my schnapps and various nightcaps nice and chill. Perfect for these hot summer evenings!
And on a recent trip to the amazing home- and kitchen-wares outlet known as Victoria's Basement... I remembered! Actually, this was also the place that I had bought it the first time around as well! So, in addition to the various bits and pieces that we needed for cooking... we all chose one thing for each of ourselves as well! And this is what I chose!
So, the instructions were to wash them in warm soapy water... and then to rinse and to let them dry. Then into the nice little velvet bag and then into the freezer!

I did have to wait a few days before I had the chance to try them out... but I popped two of the granite cubes into my butterscotch schnapps to give them a try...
... well, it was definitely a different experience. I think that I would need more than two in the amount that I had... they did drop the temperature of the drink, but not as much as I thought that they would... and when I use ice, I use two ice-blocks that are much larger. And water has a much higher latent heat capacity as well... so, not quite a good as I had hoped for, but they definitely didn't dilute those drinks!
But next time, four rocks I think... but I am also a touch uncomfortable about the way that those rocks clink around when I'm tipping the glass! Got to be careful!

It's my first time to know about that cold granite rocks. I didn't see that here in my country. So interesting to know that.
They are pretty interesting and handy... I'm up in the air about them though.
You might be better off just keeping the bottle of schnapps in the freezer to get the temperature you want. It shouldn't freeze too bad due to the alcohol content. That's how we store our butter shots when we buy them. Then we just take a pull of the bottle, pass it around, and throw it back in the freezer.
Ah yeah, I would love to do that... but we have a small freezer, and it is packed with frozen meat and things like that... so, my bottle is definitely not going to be welcome there!
Ah okay, that makes sense.
I do have some whiskey stones that I really enjoy in bourbon and scotch. You definitely need to limit the amount you add with them, but to be honest I usually don't even bother to use them anymore and go with the straight whiskey!
With Schnapps you might do better putting the bottle in the freezer, because it's not as strong as gin, rum, whiskey, etc.
I'd love to use the freezer, but we have a small one... and it is filled with food and meat... I think that the bottle would be a very unwelcome addition!
