(Which Is Tomorrow 🥹).Valentines lunch at Samchon Bunsik! Now this day couldn’t have started of on a better note than this. Took @yugadi here some months back when they had recently opened up and she loved the Tteok-Bokki & Ramen combo alot and I thought that this would be a great idea to come back here again before she leave the city and go back home
Ever since I started watching K Drama (Itaewon Class Being My First) and observing the food that they eat on the screen, it has always made me curious, and when I first tried Korean food in Bangalore few years back, I was instantly hooked to it. Also, Korean food is quite expensive in India so it's not something that I can have whenever I'd like to so I end up trying such delicacies maybe once in two or three months.
Samchon Bunsik is a lively new spot in Chennai’s growing Korean food scene, already drawing a mix of locals and Koreans. Opened by Kim Myung Soo and Kim Hyo Jin, a couple from South Korea, the restaurant brings authentic Korean street food, or bunsik, to the city. With experience running a corndog place back home, they’re excited to introduce Chennai to comforting, flavorful bites. Whether it’s a casual lunch or a gathering of friends, the warm atmosphere and delicious food make it a place worth visiting.
They started off with a limited menu only having corn dogs, Korean fried chicken options, Ramen, Tteok-Bokki variants with a few beverages for the first 2 months and later on added Bibimbap and a few rice dishes to the mix as well.
They have about nine tables and high stool counter that seats four and on the weekend this place can get super crowded. They don't do reservations as well. It's just walk in.
Love the fact that they have this glass window pane that allows for a great amount of natural light to come in, it compliments the place really well.
Ramyeon Tteok-Bokki
This plate was pure indulgence, the kind of comfort food that hits all the right spots. The thick, chewy rice cakes soaked up the fiery, gochujang based sauce beautifully, while the addition of ramyeon made it even heartier. Each bite was a balance of heat, sweetness, and umami, with the deep red sauce clinging to the noodles in the most satisfying way. The boiled egg which although is optional added a subtle chewiness, and the occasional sprinkle of spring onions gave a slight crisp freshness. Overall A warm, spicy comfort, addictive, and impossible to stop eating kind of dish.
Yang Neom Chicken
Crispy, sticky, and packed with loads of flavour, this was Korean fried chicken done right. The first crunch was everything ! shatteringly crisp batter giving way to juicy, tender meat inside. The glaze was a perfect mix of sweet, spicy, and garlicky, coating every bite in a glossy sheen of umami goodness. What I loved most was the balance, it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet or fiery, just the right amount of kick to keep me reaching for more. Paired with pickled radish to cut through the richness, this was the kind of dish that makes you wonder why you’d ever settle for regular fried chicken again. Oh and the quantity of this is just 🤌🏻
Dak Galbi Deopbap
This dish was all about bold, smoky flavours with a satisfying heft. The stir fried chicken was beautifully marinated, seared just right to bring out that slightly charred, caramelised edge. Every spoonful had a bit of everything the spicy sweet chicken, the soft grains of rice soaking up the rich sauce, and bits of cabbage adding crunch. The slightly gooey melted cheese on top took it to another level, giving each bite an extra layer of indulgence. Spicy, hearty, and packed with depth, it was the kind of meal that left me feeling content yet craving just one more bite.
Dalgona Latte
A sweet, nostalgic sip that felt like a childhood treat in a cup. The Dalgona Latte was smooth, milky, and beautifully balanced, with the burnt caramel notes of the dalgona candy melting into the creamy espresso. The brittle pieces of dalgona on top added a satisfying crunch, slowly dissolving into the drink for a lingering sweetness. It wasn’t just a latte; it was an experience, the moment when the crisp candy gives way, the rich coffee kicks in, and everything blends into a perfect harmony of flavours.
Once we paid off the bill a staff came by and gave us this Dalgona cookie and said that if we could manage to get the heart out, we would get a 10% voucher that we could use on our next visit here and clearly this was an idea picked up from the squid game series haha and it was a nice personal touch but the only thing we were given was toothpicks to carve out of the heart which was not as easy as it looks. I did manage to get the heart out but it was not as perfect as it was supposed to be and we were getting late to head out for a movie and in all of that I forgot to take a picture of the heart 🙂

On my previous visits i've tried the Kimbap, Corndogs and Peach Iced Tea as well and loved all of them especially the corndog, it was my first time trying them 🥹. Also the colours in this GIF looks way off since the videos that I have used are HDR videos shot on an iPhone, and while converting it into a GIF, it just flattened out all those vibrant colours 🥲
Also I just got back from Vietnam after 8 days! And I can’t wait to share about my journey here.

Hey Happy Valentine's Day!
Uh how tasty and exotic Korean food is, super good choice for that farewell. Indulging in such a treat every now and then, especially on special occasions, is very comforting. So nice to read how you have followed the evolution of this restaurant, it's great to see how the founders come through.
Wow I don't know what looks better, but without a doubt the fried chicken is a must, I read your description and my mouth waters hahaha. This place turns out wonderful after reading your review, the photos are also very provocative.
Both the coffee and the cookie at the end, I find spectacular, too bad you couldn't win the discount for a next visit, but surely it wouldn't have compensated losing a movie ticket hahaha.
I feel the same way about gifs, they never do justice to the original color, but it helps to illustrate in a funny way our stories.
Keep enjoying this place whenever you can, I can tell how good it is. Enjoy!
Really appreciate you taking the time to read and share your thoughts,it means a lot ✨
Korean food just has that magic, right? Perfect for a farewell or any day when you need a little comfort. And yes, watching a place grow and stay true to its roots is always special.
That fried chicken was something else! I swear, just thinking about it makes me want to go back already. Glad the photos did justice to how good it was.
Hope you get to try this spot someday too. Thanks again for the kind words ❤️
When I watch k drama I always love their food so much 😍😍
IKR it’s just irresistible 🤤 I would one day like to visit South Korea and try out all of the food there.
