Have you ever felt so preoccupied that even you wanna eat something you can't have it because of being busy? Well this is very common to me. At times I would just cook the simplest and fastest food I can so I can go on with my other tasks. I am guilty of also preparing fried food.

So today I have intended this day to cooking something I have long craved. I woke up early today to buy some ingredients I need. Its so funny that I wanted to buy cabbage and ended up not buying one. Have you had that experience when you need to buy something and end up buying something else?, something you didn't even need in the first place.

So instead of getting what I need here's what I got instead.

I got lato or sea grapes and buwad or dried fish. Well I haven't had lato for a long time same as buwad. My husband always complains whenever I have buwad at home. He hates the smell, but my daughter and I just enjoys its aroma.

I was planning to cook Nilagang Pork Ribs. So I did, but I have very limited ingredients since I forgot to buy most of it. Next time I will be more focussed on the things I buy.

Nilagang Pork Ribs Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 kilo pork ribs, cut into serving pieces
8 pcs green beans, ends trimmed
1 pc gabi
1 onion, sliced
1 pc ginger
7 cups water
4 pcs okra sliced

Cooking Procedures:

  • In a large pot, add water and pork ribs. Boil for an hour over medium heat.
  • Once the meat is tender, I removed it and plced it in a plate. Sautee onion and ginger.

  • Add the pork ribs then add the broth from the ones you used to boil the pork ribs.

  • Simmer for 15 minutes. Add the gabi.

  • Once the vegetables are tender, add the beans and okra. I included okra because its my favorite. You may choose not to include it.

  • I like my gabi mashed so I try to check if its soft enough. When it is mashed and mixed in the water of the soup then you are ready to serve. Best serve when hot.

After this I then prepared the sea grapes by washing them, not only once but twice. Then removed some dried once then put it in a bowl. All you need is separate it with its sauce which is the vinegar coz it will losts its crisp.

I then fried some buwad or dried fish. Buwad is actually very abundant in Cebu, we are surrounded by sea water so a lot of fishermen sells this.

I like my buwad a bit crispy so I want it having that brown color. For todays meal I didn't really spend much. For the ingredients I bought today the vegetables was just 50 pesos, the buwad is 80 pesos and the lato is 20 pesos. It was just less that 200 pesos or $2. The pork ribs actually just costs 80 pesos. All in all would be 300 pesos. Not bad since we have some left over and I can still have that for later.

The best thing in cooking is you get to cook all at once and then have the remaining food for the next meal. Be creative in cooking and don't limit yourself, sometimes you can not afford all the ingredients then use what is available.

Hope to see you again in a happy and wonderful meal with me.
