No one can deny that being a young high schooler was full of exciting and memorable experiences. We created countless unforgettable moments that we still cherish and carry with us today. Even though almost a decade has passed since we graduated, our bond remains as strong as ever, and we continue to stay connected.
Recently, my high school friends reached out with plans to visit me at home. They suggested we catch up over some beers and barbecue, and it sounded like the perfect way to spend the day. We all agreed it was a must, and we made sure everything came together seamlessly. The anticipation was high, and we were all excited to relive those fun moments from back in the day.
When they finally arrived, they came fully prepared, bringing with them a box of cold beers and a variety of Filipino-style barbecues. It was clear they had put thought into making sure everything was ready for a good time. All I had to do was grab the cooking utensils, set up the grill, and arrange the table and seating for everyone. It was a smooth, easy setup, and I could already tell it was going to be a fantastic gathering.
Once I had everything set up and everyone had what they needed, we got the cooking started. The air was filled with the sizzling sounds of meat on the grill, while some of us cracked open beers and began chatting. As we cooked, the mood was light, with everyone reminiscing about the good old days.

Now, for those of you who might not be familiar with what I shared, especially my non-Filipino readers, some of the food we were grilling might seem a bit unusual. For instance, we had plenty of chicken feet and heads, which might raise an eyebrow. But for us, it was nothing out of the ordinary.
These were some of our favorite treats from our student days — flavorful, tender, and full of nostalgia. It was a tradition we’d carried with us over the years, and sharing those unique dishes together brought back so many fun memories of hanging out after school or on weekends.
As soon as everything was perfectly cooked, we all sat down, ready to dive into the everything we had prepared. The mood was relaxed, and the atmosphere was filled with the sounds of laughter as we began sharing stories from our high school days. Each story seemed to make the mood even lighter and more joyful, with everyone chiming in, reminiscing about the silly moments, the mischief, and the friendships that shaped us back then.
It felt like no time had passed at all as we swapped memories, and I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Being able to spend time with these incredible people who’ve been such a big part of my journey was a true blessing. We all laughed, joked, and reflected on how far we’ve come since those high school years, and I realized just how special it is to still have these connections. In a world that changes so quickly, the fact that we can come together, even after all this time, and still feel like we’re those same high schoolers at heart is something I’ll always treasure.
