It has been less than two years since my family moved from the city to the countryside and inside that year I am learning a lot about Ilocano dishes. I am amazed by Ilacano dishes because they are so simple but still delicious, tasty, and most of all healthy because they seldom use oil on their local dishes.
One of the common dishes of Ilocanos is the vegetable soup. It is a dish where the only seasoning used in cooking is their famous "Fish Sauce".
And today I am going to cook a vegetable soup called "Ribbed Loofah and String Beans in Fish Sauce". This dish is very simple, very easy to prepare, and most of all very easy to cook. This dish is at its best when the vegetables used are freshly picked. And that's what exactly I am going to cook for today, the vegetables are all freshly picked from the small vegetable garden of my husband.
Ingredients
- String Beans (about 150 grams)
- Ribbed Loofah (about 250 grams)
- Fish Sauce (about 5 tbsp)
Preparing the ingredients
I just sliced the string beans into smaller strings
I peeled and sliced the ribbed loofah into smaller action and then cut them in the center twice
I prepared the fish sauce in a bowl
How to cook
1. I combined all the ingredients into a bowl, add some water, and let them boil
2. When it starts to boil I added the fish sauce
3. When all the vegetables are cooked turn off the heat
4. Put some in a bowl and enjoy (if all the vegetables are freshly picked there is a bit of sweetness on them
