FOODlog #336: Korean Jajangmyeon

Tried to cook something new recently. Some Korean food!

After watching Wok of Love (Korean series) I wanted to try Jjajangmyeon which is a noodle dish that is mixed with fermented Korean black bean paste.

I pan fried some spring onions and pork tenderloin that I cut into cubes. After that I removed the pork and then added in the vegetables which were onions, zucchini, and cabbage. After stir frying them with some oil, I added in the fermented black bean paste and water. Add back in the pork, some soy sauce, and sugar then let it stew for 5 minutes.

To thicken the sauce, I added in a corn starch slurry which is basically corn starch and water mixed together.

For the noodles I got a Korean udon noodles or Jjajangmyeon noodles and cooked it in boiling water for 5-6 minutes. Wash the noodles with running water to remove the starch and then serve up the noodles with the sauce on top and mix.

The most satisfying thing about this dish is that like in the series I was watching, it makes a sticky slushy sound when you scoop the sauce onto the noodles 😂

I have never tried Jjajangmyeon so I don't know what it's suppose to taste like actually. Anyway, I think I did well for my first try and it tasted pretty good but i think I can improve as well. Very happy with this try and enjoyed the meal.

Until next time ~~
