FOODlog #813: Dinner at 'The Public House'

Took my wife out for dinner to celebrate her birthday. Whenever we celebrate each other's birthday, we often don't have a very good experience coz we always try out a new place that we haven't been to and then discover that the food isn't good. This time though, we also spontaneously had dinner at a place we never tried but it was a really good experience.

We went to this place called 'The Public House' that serves Malaysian local delights that's pimped up and also Western food as well.

I have been craving for 'Hokkien Mee' which is a popular local noodle dish wok fried with pork slices, prawns, cabbage, dark soy sauce, and soy sauce, topped with deep fried pork lard. So since it was on the menu, I decided to order it. It was also the top selection on their menu so I guess it is suppose to be a signature dish of the restaurant and I wasn't disappointed.

Their Hokkien Mee has got to be one of the best I've ever eaten in my life. The pork slices were pork belly slices which tasted so good. The noodles were so flavorful and it felt like the soy sauce and dark soy sauce they use are premium grade ones. You could really taste the quality of the dish together with an abundant amount of fresh, plump, and juicy prawns and topped with a generous amount of fried pork lard. It was truly a Hokkien Mee dish cooked to perfection!

My wife ordered a pan-fried Halibut on risotto. The halibut was cooked really well although I felt it could've been seasoned a pinch more. The risotto was cheesy and creamy although the type of rice doesn't seem to be the short grain Italian type of rice which I felt would've been a better pairing since its risotto. But overall the dish tasted good too.

We also ordered a pizza to share which I think we should've have as their portions are generous and we were really stuffed from this dinner. But we are glad we did. It was a thin crust pizza topped with prosciutto ham, roquefort blue cheese, and fresh crisp rocket. It was definitely the highlight our dinner. The dough was charred just right. The blue cheese wasn't overpowering but you could definitely taste it and it was such a delicious combination with the prosciutto ham and peppery rocket. Every slice was absolutely delicious!

Definitely would recommend this place for the food. The ambience was nice and pleasant as well although as a food blogger, it had very little lighting to take good pictures but manageable. Even their water came in a cute and fancy little glass.

Wowwwwww.... The food is amazing! The public house seems to be a fine dining restaurant.

It looks fine dining but the price is like 30% of a fine dining place. Quite fairly reasonably priced actually.
