Hello hivers, hello culinary lovers. As usual I want to share my cooking experience with you. So this time I want to make food, namely peyek. Peyek or also called rempeyek is one of the traditional foods in Indonesia that has a crispy texture and has a savory taste. No wonder this food has many fans. Peyek is a food made from rice flour with the addition of several spices, namely garlic, coriander and turmeric.
Not only that, usually peyek has other additional ingredients and is very diverse such as rebon shrimp, anchovies and others. Usually for the non-vegan version, it is often used as a side dish, while for the vegan version, some use peanuts, green beans, spinach and so on, and this version is mostly often used as a snack. However, it is also possible to be used as a side dish.
Did you know, the process of making peyek is also quite easy, we only need to make a flour dough then add the spices and ingredients you want that I have described above, then fry until dry and crispy. Speaking of that, the peyek that I want to make today is with the addition of small shrimp. Instead of being curious, let's go straight to how to make it below.
Ingredients needed:
- 150 grams of rice flour
- 100 grams of small shrimp
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 tbsp coriander
- 1 finger joint turmeric
- 2 pieces of kaffir lime leaves
- 1/2 tsp pepper powder (ladaku)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 200 ml water
How to make:
First: prepare the fine spices, namely garlic, turmeric and coriander. I use a mortar to smooth it.
Second: then prepare a container, mix all the flour ingredients, fine spices, pepper powder, sliced lime leaves, salt and water. Except for shrimp. Stir until well blended
Third: Heat a lot of cooking oil, I use medium heat. Take the dough using a ladle, then add shrimp into the ladle as desired. Sprinkle the dough on the edge of the pan, pour oil until the dough is slightly dry. Then fry until golden brown. Repeat until the dough runs out. Stir the dough every time you are about to fry so that the flour does not settle. Store in an airtight container after the peyek has cooled slightly.
Finished
Well, this is my homemade shrimp crackers. Although it looks simple, this crackers produces crackers with a savory, crunchy taste and in my opinion it tastes perfect, very suitable to be served as a friend to eat rice or enjoyed as a snack.
In addition to being a complement to rice dishes, peyek is also served as a complement to other foods such as in some of these foods, namely gado-gado, pecel, soto and so on. If you are curious, try making it at home.
