Food, Togetherness, and Enjoyment

IMG_20220210_104622-tile.jpg

This morning, we planned to hold an activity to break the fast together. The idea arose because during the pandemic these activities were abolished because of the prohibition on gatherings. But as the pandemic has slowed, we try to plan to be able to gather together, cook together, and enjoy ourselves together too.

Various offers of food and drink menus have arrived, friends feel very enthusiastic and they also spend funds to support this activity. Several dishes, including Beulangong sauce, grilled chicken, grilled fish, chicken soup, chili paste, and mixed fruit and sugarcane juice have become the main menu tonight. Preparations began, some bought chicken and fish, and some bought vegetables very quickly at the market. Others prepare cooking utensils. Everyone is so busy and taking on each other's roles.

Beulangong sauce

In our tradition, Kuah Beulangong is a dish in the form of a red sauce, a kind of curry with special spices, using beef or goat and young jackfruit as the main ingredients. Usually, this dish is present on days of religious celebrations but this time we present it specifically outside the celebration.

What's special about our Beulangong Kuah is that we use venison with a very high level of spiciness. Don't worry because the spicier it is, the more fun it will be in the mouth.

Padang Roast Chicken and Fish

The presence of friends from Padang and currently on duty in Aceh certainly adds to the liveliness of this activity. How not, we had the opportunity to taste the spices formulated by them using chicken as the main menu. Wow... Tasted really delicious and honestly, I finally found out what spices they use. Of course, this adds to my reference to trying new dishes.

Basically, Aceh and Padang dishes are almost similar, because the spices used are the same coconut milk, bay leaves, turmeric leaves, sugar and salt to taste, powdered broth,
lime juice, lemongrass, shallots and garlic, roasted turmeric, candlenut, galangal, ginger, bay leaf, and red chili. Unfortunately, when I was cooking it all I was zooming with the leader, so this is the result.

Typical light cakes for breaking the fast.

In general, the iftar menu starts with light ones, there are Boh Rom Rom cakes or commonly called Onde-onde Cakes, Fried Tofu, Dates, Bakwan, and others. This time we prepared a lot of cakes because all the family will be there to break their fast.

The Importance of Togetherness.

Don't see how much we prepare the food and drinks, but the process of making it is all attended by the personnel in my office. This is what made us successful in preparing this iftar event. Everyone's involvement makes all the work so easy and everyone is happy. Of course, together everything becomes easy and can be resolved quickly and on time.

Incomparable pleasure.

Yup, this is the end goal. Whatever we have been trying to do since this afternoon has been served, the invitation has arrived and when the sign of breaking the fast has sounded, everyone is very happy to enjoy our dish. There is laughter, there are jokes, there is joy, even their children really like this dish.

What else are we looking for in this world other than pleasure in being together. The world becomes beautiful when we have a sense of togetherness, everything becomes beautiful because of the common goal of making people happy and happy.
