I’m going to start this post by saying, if you are from the Middle East, please do not be angry at this post.
I know shawarma is you guys thing and it’s done totally different from this but this is the way it’s done and loved in my side of the world so do not be mad y’all!
Reason for saying this is that a guy came at me for this weeks back and boy!
Now back to the post
One of the most loved street food today in Nigeria is Shawarma. And as time goes on more people are finding ways to enjoy it in their own way and make it a fun and versatile meal.
We’ve got:
Chicken shawarma
Beef shawarma
Then along the way more people kept trying new things and now we’ve got:
Fish shawarma (You’ll never see me eat this!)
Goat meat shawarma
Shrimp shawarma
Sausage shawarma (Least favorite)
Chicken and cheese shawarma....
...the list be going on and on believe me
So today I’m just going to be doing a little snippet showing the ingredients used to make it and a lil how-to along the way
We’ve got Shawarma bread, freshly made by me. No shawarma without this right! Lol
Easy to make (Check YouTube for more)
Nicely cut Cabbage. Some people slice carrots in but I’m not really a fan of that.
Oven baked chicken breast. This is spiced up using spices of your choice but I used Bullion cubes, salt, paprika, barbecue spice and some Ginger and Garlic paste
Sausages, all pan seared.
....and finally the sauce.
A combination of Mayonnaise, Ketchup, sweet chili, a drizzle of lemon, pepper and a tiny bit of salt.
Easy how to.
• Lay out your bread
• Place a handful of cabbage
• Place some cut up chicken pieces on it
• Add In your sausages (If you like it)
• Pour a good amount of sauce on it. Be generous with it but not too much or you will end up with soggy bread.
• Roll it all up together using a foil sheet or a paper.
• Place in an oven to heat up for 5 to 10 mins!
And we are done!
Now that wasn’t so hard was it.
I recognize and know that there are a lot of different ways to make this even where I live. I think at the end of the day, it’s just about making something people however different we all are, can eat and enjoy!
Right!?
