Have you tried these local authentic snacks in South India !?

Hello my Hive family! I hope you all are doing amazing and staying safe!

Today I'm gonna introduce you to some of the very famous local snacks of South India, especially the one from Karnataka coastal region. Well, each geo has got its own speciality in terms of food, culture, language etc and we all love it with a great pride and it always stays as native emotion!

Some of the tasties and traditional snacks of Tulunadu are :

MANGALORE BUNS
Have you heard of a song Hot cross Buns!? Well, this is our native buns. Super fluffy pillowy soft swirls inside the deep fried soft & sweet bun is love. Mostly prepared at all house hold & local small hotels with flour, bananas, sugar, curd and a pinch of salt. Must try it when you are at Mangalorean regions.

PURI
This one is the sibling of Buns in terms of the blown shape but with totally different taste, texture and combination. Just a wheat flour, salt and water is kneaded well and rolled to circular shapes and deep fried to get big blown beauties. You can either pair it up with mashed potato spiced gravy or any sweet cream like mango puree or shrikhand. Extremely good for breakfast!

GOLI BAJE
One of the most loved evening snack by locals of coastal region! At other places this is called as Mangalore Bajji, Mangalore Bonda or Bonda. But we the Mangaloreans call it with all love as Goli Baje, which translates to Goli means Round and Baje means fritters so its round ball kinda fritters.

Mostly made up of flour, spiced with green chillies, salt, sugar, coconut pieces, curry leaves and deep fried. Pairing it with coconut based chutney/dip makes it an excellent combination!

MASALA DOSE
This delicacy was originated in the kitchens of Udupi restaurant though many places claims to be the inventors of this dish. Fermented rice based batter is spread super thin on the hot pan, added lots of butter/Ghee, spread some spicy dip on top along with mashed potato spiced mixture and then rolled to either canal or triangle shape as shown in the image.

Goes perfectly tasty with the south indian sambar & coconut chutney dip as it gets super moist and dunked.

CUTLET
One of my personal favourite dish where the beetroot based vegetables mashed mixture with spices is rolled to round or elongated shape and dipped in samolina and shallow fried for few minutes.

Ketchup & coriander chutney makes a best pair for this snack.

SAJJIGE BAJIL
Well, this is very old traditional food mostly liked as a breakfast item. Samolina is tempered with spices and chillies and curry leaves served with tempered flattened rice. Some people like it to mix both and enjoy with little bit of sugar sprinkle on top whereas few people like one of the two and as seperate.

Hope you all enjoyed this short local snacks read.
