Tasty Sunday #13: Vegetarian Hamburger

Hello foodies! How are you spending the last day of the week? Are any cheat meals or tasty food in the plan to be prepared? 😋

Since there is always one day every week when I feel the need to eat something less healthy than the usual food I have in the house, I thought about dedicating this post to a recipe that I created on a day when I wanted to have a burger in my belly lol. So why not to share it with you? 😍

  • french fries
  • cordon bleu
  • capsicum
  • cabbage
  • bun
  • sweet chilli
  • optional: more vegetables and/or spices

I began by cutting some slices of capsicum and then grating the cabbage because I'll use it as a bed for the cordon bleu and for that I wanted it to be chopped as small as possible.
The next step was to cut the bun without having the cut till the end because it's never fun to have all the ingredients falling over on your first bite, lol.
You can also consider adding it to a toaster to make it ruddier but since the bun was very fresh I decided to keep it like that.

After you have all the fresh vegetables cut and ready to be added to the hamburger you can start cooking the cordon bleu.
Personally, I wanted to avoid having meat in my burger so I bought a cordon bleu filled with cheese and mushrooms but you can get any you like because there are also with ham and cheese, broccoli and cheese, and a lot more.
If you get one filled with any kind of meat, you should pay attention to the frying part to avoid being cooked on the surface but the inside to remain raw, while if you opt for one with vegetables, it's enough to keep the cordon bleu for around 2-3 minutes on each side until it gathers a gold colour.

Having an air fryer, I also decided to add some frozen fries in it for a quick way to have my french fries ready while cooking the cordon bleu, but if you don't have a cooking machine like that, you can keep it simple and fry the potatoes in oil but perhaps leave them to rest for a few minutes on a paper towel before adding them to the burger because the oil can change the taste a lot and no one likes eating something with less excitement than planned, right?
You can also consider adding some spices to the french fries for a tastier result.

The next and last step is to assemble everything and enjoy the results.
Personally, I decided to add the cabbage first, then some sweet chilli, being followed by the cordon bleu and slices of capsicum, but you can always add more or less ingredients depending on your preferences.
Since I've never been good at adding a lot of ingredients in a bun because it always turns up too big and hard to eat, I kept the french fries around it and served them separately, but it also depends on the bun you are using and how you arrange everything.

How much do you enjoy preparing burgers at home?
