I always try to eat as many local food as I can whenever I am back in hometown, Kuching. It is as if my stomach expanded to be bigger when I am home hahaha.
Well not that much too because I am pregnant, so I could only eat small but more frequent meals.
Breakfast
I went out early in the morning for breakfast with my dad and sister as they usually have this habit of waking up early for breakfast outside. I did not bring my family along because they are not early breakfast people. We went to the food court nearby the house where it is my family's usual breakfast place.
Over there, my sister and I ordered the Black Vinegar noodles which is sourish and savory but super appetizing. I thought I could not finish it but I did because it was delicious!
Though this noodle is less popular compared the Sarawak's staple famous kolo mee, this is actually one of my favorites. It is really hard to find it in Kuala Lumpur.
Dad ordered his favorite usual tomato Kuey teow. It is flat rice noodles fried with a lot of "woke hei" (smell of the wok) towards a bit charred side soaked in tomato gravy. This is something more sourish too. Not everyone enjoy this dish but the one my dad ordered was actually very good.
I ordered an umbra juice with sour plum. Very refreshing to end the breakfast with this!
Lunch
My secondary school friends asked where I felt like eating or food I miss from Kuching. I chose my nostalgic old shop opposite my school, Sin Lian Shin. My brother thinks this place serves the best kolo mee.
The shop is extra small so it is always crowded especially during breakfast time on weekends. We managed to grab a table inside the shop.
Of course I ordered their kolo mee here. KOLO MEE is actually springy curly noodles stirred in dried sauce that is served with minced meat. It is really fragrant. Some places make theirs a bit dry but this shop does it perfectly.
I could not resist my dry kiao which is dried dumplings with meat. It has been a bit pricey for the drued dumplings these days but I just have to eat them many times in my every trip home. This was definitely not my first time eating it. I could not remember if it is the 3rd or fourth.
My another friend who arrived a bit later ordered the kolo kuey tiaw which is flat rice noodles stirred in the same fragrant sauce. After seeing her eat, then I also wished I ordered this hahaha. I took some from her for tasting and still think this shop serves very very good kolo everything.
Asides from food, I ordered my sinful 3 layer milk tea aka 3 layer teh C Peng. We have people replicating this drink in West Malaysia too but the ones in Sarawak always taste better because they use a lighter palm sugar. As a person who seldom drink tea due too caffeine intolerance, this was sooooo satisfying and worth any heart palpitations after!

The delicacies you captured look savory but the one that my eyes love the most is your breakfast. It looks like black soy sauce was used and the meat 🤤.
Hahaha sinful because I am cutting down sugar so I am not supposed to take sweet drinks. Oops!
