There is a place I have been thinking of even before I came back to Kuching, my hometown. It is an old old old coffee shop called....
Sin Lian Shin 新联成
Some people think it serves the best kolo mee (dried noodle mixed with sauce) in town. I too think that but I am biased because it is a place I used to frequent whenever I have extra class after school hours. So yes, I am eating 'nostalgic memory of a familiar taste', if you know what I mean.
My parents offered to take care of my boys so we could dine out in peace for breakfast hahaha. The thing was my boys were also okay and happy to let us go. They waved goodbye happily.
Hence off we went on a RARE breakfast date!
I must take a photo with the shop. There were few occasions I went back during Chinese New Year and this shop was not opened. The other time when I went back to hometown was when my youngest was only 6 months old so it was not conducive for me to bring him along. Now it is like "FINALLY, I GET TO EAT HERE!"
It is actually a very simple and small shoplot. We used to only sit inside the small shop and cramped together with my school friends. Now it has extended to have tables outside as well with even an extra big standing fan I'm case the weather gets too hot. Yay!
This is the ONLY stall in this shop, serving kolo noodles, kueh tiaw (flat noodle) and bee hoon (thin rice vermicelli) and wontons.
They have even upgraded to accepting e-wallets like Touch N Go and Grabpay.
Without further ado, here comes the food! This is the legendary kolo mee, which is dried noodles stirred in red char siew (sweet Chinese barbeque) sauce.
I ordered one with the Kuey Tiaw version too which is flat noodles, because I simply just missed how I used to eat it.
Nicely done in red sauce!
These 2 are best eaten with this cili padi (fiery spicy small chili) in vinegar. I poured the whole saucer into my bowl of noodles.
We also ordered their ice milk tea aka Teh C Peng.
I tend to order dried wonton everywhere I went. This is Hands Down the BEST dried wontons! Even the husband agreed!
Our extra hearty breakfast!!
After the first round, my husband actually thought he wanted to have a 2nd round of Kuching laksa, which is rice vermicelli in some broth of spices and coconut milk. So I brought him to the one I know and we walked down the streets to it.
I was looking and admiring all these older shops with old signboards. Time has really made some changes to them.
Noticed a new pork butchery too.
*Finally arrived at Kit Siang Cafe. My dad likes to come here for their laksa.
After the 2nd round of eating, we walked all the way back to where our car was parked. I took a look at this old eatery too of maybe 30 years which I used to come here for shaved ice in my school days too.

When I reached home, I was greeted by these two. My eldest took good care of the youngest one.
