I am excitedly typing this post because I was lucky enough to get very sweet African cherry in the market today. 💃💃
I got some last week and I really didn’t like them as they were all sour••• the woman who sold it to me had the effrontery to tell me it was already ‘sweet’ 😩 and since I hadn’t had this fruit since early last year, I hastily concurred and bought it. Anyway, I got lucky today 🤣💃
African Cherry or African star apple like some people call it is now in the market and I decide to let y’all lovers of this sour-sweet fruit know. My elder sister tops this list though. She loves this fruit to the core even when it still has its purely sour taste and hasn’t attained its sweetness.
It’s botanical name is Chrysophyllum africanum and it’s a popular fruit here in Nigeria and Africa.
In my native language which is Yoruba, we call it Àgbálùmò. In the East and South, it’s called Udara while in the North it’s Agbaluma.
Well, we say it’s not right to pluck Agbalumo (African Cherry) off its tree🌲. It is believed that it’s best to wait till rain falls and it’s wind blows down the fruits off the tree. Then we can pick the fruits from the floor and consume.
