First Time Trying Fried Pig's Intestines From Pungko-Pungko Sa Fuente, Cebu

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago (edited)

This was one random day about a month ago when I went with my best friend to a neighboring city to check her condo unit. It was the very first time that we were able to see her unit after the onslaught of "Odette". Fortunately, not so much had been damaged in it and the whole subdivision. So, we just cleaned it up a bit, fixed it a little, and went pool swimming right after.

It took us an hour to do the necessary cleaning of the unit while roughly 3 hours swimming our stresses out to the pool. After some good time with the soothing cold pool water, we left and looked for lunch while heading our way home. There, we had reached one of the very affordable go-to's in the city when it comes to fried food.

We had tried "Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente", and it was just my first time trying it. I would say, it was one of my favorite firsts.

PUNGKO-PUNGKO SA FUENTE

52-A J. Llorente St, Cebu City, 6000 Cebu

I'd heard of the good things about Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente many times already, from before and even up to now. But I only got to try it that very time I went with my best friend to her condo just last month. I was honestly in big doubt to try it as I was not a fan of fried foods, especially "Ginabot" or "Chicharon Bulaklak" which Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente is known for. But with all the chance I had that day for that store, I like put it on my list of to-try and checked it the same time.

By the way,Pungko-Pungko is a street food business that sells fried food in a random assortment. The frieds commonly include Lumpia, Chicken, Pork, Meatballs, Longganisa, and the famous "GINABOT" - our take on Chicharon Bulaklak (Pork cracklings) that's made from pig's intestines.

The business is named such, as "Pungko" is the Cebuano's term for crouch or squat that which the customers dine in a slouching manner as the seats offered in the Pungko-Pungko stalls are usually low. Later on, along with the progress and developments, the kind of business also has been improved, that from just street stalls, now there are a lot of Pungko-Pungko restaurants where you can sit just comfortably and don't have to really slouch, just like what I had just tried last month, the "Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente".

At that time, we hadn't had the chance to dine in as we were in a rush for another errand while heading home. So we just took away "Pork Cracklings", the thing we called here "Ginabot" which is their best-selling fried. Each cost Php 20.00, and we bought 10 pieces. Too much for the first try? Well, if we only knew ahead how well it suits our taste preferences, we would surely get more.

What made it even better is their vinegar condiment with the thinly sliced bitter-sweet white onion that complemented well the crispy fried Pig's intestines slash Pork Cracklings slash "Ginabot".

To pair with our "Ginabot" for lunch, we took away hanging rice, the thing we called here "Puso". One piece of the Puso costs Php 12.00. It was just enough for the price. We ordered four, 2 for each, as we thought a piece could not suffice our hunger. But we only finished one "Puso" each. Usually, for the average-sized hanging rice, I could finish 2-3 pieces in a meal, so a piece of Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente's "Puso" could equal three pieces of average size.

It just looks small here, but it's big enough just like how I described it above.

All in all, we only spent Php 248.00. We got 10 pieces of "Ginabot" and 4 of "Puso". It was again, one of my best first times. I really love their best-selling "Ginabot". And for me, it was the best among the many I had tried in different stores after that in Fuente.

Have you tried it too? How was it?
