When I said it's a recipe, please don't expect too much. I'm not a chef and I'm rarely cooking. But I can guarantee that this snack tastes awesome.
The first time I ate cilor is when I live in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, for college. I tell you something: Bandung people are very like Tapioca Starch. There are lots of traditional snacks in Bandung that are made with tapioca starch.
The has cireng (fried tapioca cake), cilok (steam tapioca satay), and cilor (basically it's a fried cilok with egg). I think they also have another kind of snack from tapioca starch but I can't remember the name.
Cireng was my breakfast menu every day. It's definitely not healthy, but it's cheap. I was very broke when I was a student. Cilok has been my lunch menu. And every Friday I always bought cilor because they only sell it on Friday in front of my campus's mosque.
So now, as a part of "tapioca snack's fandom', I will share with you one simple recipe about Cilor. Of course, it's not as amazing as the cilor that I bought in front of my campus, but it's still cilor. I can say, it's a beginner level of cilor's world.
Anyway, I write this recipe because my friend @aswita said she never ever tried cilok or cilor before. Poor you, Aswita :(
WHAT WE NEED
- 8 tbsp flour
- 10 tbsp tapioca starch
- 3 tbsp flavored flour (I used it because I have it, but if you don't have it, just change it with regular flour)
- Garlic (but because I don't have fresh garlic, I simply change it with garlic powder. It's not the same but I have no choice)
- Pepper (I use pepper powder)
- Salt
- Eggs (I use chicken eggs)
LET'S MAKE IT!!!
FIRST STEP: BOIL THE WATER
Okay, the first step is you need to boil some water. I want to tell you how much, but I'm just using my gut feeling. But maybe around 400 ml? Please take a look at that picture and maybe you can guess how much is it.
I'm sorry, but I already tell you, I'm not a chef. I just use my pure feeling and let the magic happen.
SECOND: POUR THE FLOUR
Pour the flour little by little. Please be patient at this step. Don't be like me lol. I just all of it at the same time. Stir it until it looks like dough.
Don't forget to put the garlic, pepper, salt, and flavored flour.
Oh don't forget to turn down the flame. Use low heat so the dough doesn't burn.
NEXT STEP
When your dough looks like that, turn off the stove. Don't freak out, we didn't finish it yet. It's edible but it doesn't look like food either. A human food.
Transfer the dough to another container. No reason, I just want extra dishes. Take a rest for a while because it's still hot. You will burn your hand if you touch it.
MAKE LITTLE BALLS WITH IT
You can make any shapes you want. I choose a circle or a ball because it's easy. As you can see, I'm not too consistent about the size lol.
Just make it as best as you can!
BOILED IT AGAIN
You can add some oil to make your balls shinier. Shine bright like a diamond. Boiled it until it floated and swam like a beautiful swan in the lake.
R.I.P my grammar. I just realized that sometimes I used past tense. P
MAKE A SATAY!
Once cooked, drain. Skew it with a skewer (if you don't have one, that's fine. I just use this to make it easier to fry and look cooler).
At this step, we can call this dish CILOK. @aswita now you know how to make cilok, right? Just make it for you hubby. But remember, our goal is to make cilor, right? So there are two more steps to do.
IT'S TIME FOR THE EGG
Beat eggs. Dip the cilok in the egg. Mix well. Make sure all surfaces are exposed to the egg mixture.
FRY IT!
Please use lots of oil. Fry it until brown.
And finally... OUR CILOR IS DONE!!!
Anyway, I should take a food photography lesson by @anggreklestari lol. Believe me, it tastes better than the look at my photo.

I will recook this recipe and make it more delicious wkwkw
I strongly believe that you can make it more delicious wkwkwk.
Then please send it to me.
In my city, Bogor, usually Cilor will be sold together with Maklor. The sauce used is also simpler, only using chili powder. But yours looks more tempting, makes me want to try it. YUMM!!
You know what, the first time I bought maklor, I was so confused and disappointed because I thought it was cilor. Wkwkwk. But now I like it. I always buy it with telor gulung
