Craving Satisfied!!!

I'm not a fan of beans but for some weeks, I started craving beans.

This is probably because of the fact that I hadn't eaten it for over 5 months.

There are two major reasons why it took that long.
The main reason was because I had been away from my home because of my compulsory NYSC program.
So I didn't have access to my pressure pot as it was big and I left it at home.

I prefer cooking my beans with the pressure pot for some reasons namely; it is very fast, it takes 20-25 minutes to get my beans soft to my desired texture.

Also, there's just a special way the beans cooked with pressure pot tastes, all the ingredients would have been infused into the beans giving it a yummy taste.

So because I didn't have the pot with me, I decided to wait till I got back home.

I am also a lover of homemade beans so buying beans at a restaurant was not even an option for me.
More so, Buying another pressure pot was also a no-no.

One day, I finally decided to satisfy my craving for beans.

I was not ready to compromise on the kind of beans I would cook. So I went for my favourite type of beans, which is the Honey beans.

They call the honey beans "Oloyin" in the state I am in.

I knew I would need to cook the beans under low heat and for a longer time to achieve a soft-textured beans.
So I planned to start early.

I started by rinsing the already picked beans, then putting it in the pot, with some onions to start cooking.

I kept checking at intervals and adding water to ensure the water was not dried out.

(This is one of the reasons why I prefer using a pressure pot. I would just need to put all ingredients together at once and add some water the next time I would be opening it, it would be ready)

But hey!, nothing was going to deter me from having my honey beans today.

It was now taking almost forever for the beans to get soft, 😔
I decided to add my crayfish, Palm oil and salt.

Little did I know that one important ingredient was missing.

I don't know if you noticed already.

The pot of beans porridge appeared to begin to take form so I didn't think anything was going wrong.

You see that urge to add more salt when cooking beans, don't fall for it.
I did and it almost cost me my pot of beans 😭

I had to leave for work that morning so I settled to eat some bread and tea as breakfast and decided I would finish up the beans cooking when I returned in the afternoon.
So much for satisfying this craving 😂

On my way back from work, I got some ripe plantain.
If you know me well, I would always say Plantain is my best food.
Ripe one please!

Being a Nigerian girl, I have always jokingly announced to my friends that in whatever gifts they would plan to give me on my wedding day, they should add big bunches of plantain 😂.
Yes the Love is that deep😅

Anyways back to my Honey beans story,
I got home dropped my bag and quickly rushed to the kitchen to continue the cooking.

I cut the plantain to my preferred shape and size, added a pinch of salt to season it a bit.

Then I started frying and viola! In less than 10 minutes my fried plantain was ready.

Now it was time to complete the cooking of the beans.
I felt it wasn't as soft as I would have preferred, so I decided to add some more water to it.

I tasted it and instantly I knew an important ingredient was missing.

My African instinct immediately reminded me that in all my cookings there was no pepper 🌶️
How did that happen? 😭

I immediately dashed out of the kitchen to go out and buy some grounded pepper to add.
But on my way out, I met my flatmate (She's such a sweet soul)

She told me she had some fresh bell pepper that she remained from her cooking that I could use it if I wanted.

So I decided to use the fresh pepper instead.

I quickly used the manual grinder for it.
And I added it to the Pot of beans to allow it cook.

Resist the urge to add more salt 🧂 after you already added the quantity you will normally add.

In no time, the beans porridge was ready.

I served it in a plate and garnished it with fried plantain on the side and took it to my room to enjoy.

When I tasted it, I remembered the extra salt I added and it dawned on me that that extra was unnecessary 😂😂

Anyways I moved on and finished my food happily.

I'm glad I was able to satisfy my craving for beans.
Will I try it again bext time without my pressure pot?

Maybe not🧐
