Hey, foodies in the hive!
Hope your week is going great 😁
Is there a dish that makes you feel like it's Sunday when you eat it? In my hometown, traditionally this would be a soup, a soup served in a generous sized bowl preferably.
It wasn't Sunday, but the day felt strangely slow and the sky was a bit cloudy, which seemed to slow down the pace of time even more. Also, oddly enough, we had finished work a little early. We were hungry and tired, but not as tired as running to the shelter of home and the comfort of the couch. We decided to eat out before going back to our homes. We went for soup at María Antonia, a restaurant located on Américo Vespucio Avenue, Lechería.
As soon as we entered, I had a déjà vu...
Then I looked around and remembered that I had been there before, but back then it was a different restaurant, with different owners.
Now, they serve Venezuelan typical food, such as soups, roast chicken, arepas and cachapas, fried pork, and more. You can check out their menu here and see for yourself that they have a decent variety of dishes and fair prices. We all decided on a “cruzado,” which in Venezuela refers to soup made with two or more varieties of the same or different meats. In this case the cruzado was very typical of this area, eastern Venezuela: hen and beef ribs.
The atmosphere, as you can see, is warm and pleasant. Luckily for us, the warmth was only metaphorical, hehe. The air conditioning was at perfect temperature. The music was soft and low volume; there were only a few costumers. The many lamps with warm light and the large windows with beautiful view of the sky and the green plants had a Sunday vibe that I'm afraid I can't describe as I know I should. I would've liked to be offered a hammock and fall asleep right there--but after lunch, of course 😋
Our drinks (beer, lemonade, papaya juice) arrived ias soon as we ordered.
Our soups arrived super quickly, in ten minutes or so. They were served with arepas, margarine, and handmade rocoto chili.
Couldn't ask for more--except, perhaps, for that hammock--.
My beer was cold...
My soup was hot...
The broth was thick, as thick as I like it on Sunday, though it wasn't Sunday...
Heaven ❤️
For the record, our soups were half portions, half soups really. And it was more than enough. I don't think I could finish the big bowl full; this small bowl--which wasn't really small but a standard soup bowl--was perfect. Notice that we didn't even have room for dessert or coffee.
One of the best soups I've tried in a restaurant. It tasted like soup at home on a nice, quiet Sunday.
Best thing of the day, it was my brother in law's treat, hehe.
Bon appetite!
