The banana would smell something amazingly while baking. I use to made this brownie twice. These are our favorite brownies because we like "chewy" brownies rather than cake-like brownies. I have never had problems with the recipe and made it dozens of times. They are anything but dry-they are very moist and chewy. I would suspect it could have been the Splenda and maybe try them again with regular sugar. Also, did you mix the butter/sugar by hand or with a mixer? The batter is a bit thicker but not as thick as you describe.

Aww, I love the smell of baking banana things too lol! I mixed the oil/sugar with my stand mixer but I folded the dry ingredients into the wet by hand, so I wouldn't have a badly textured brownie from over mixing. It sounds like you love to bake a lot, I am so going to wander over to your blog and check it out😊
