Steamed baguette- a totally new recipe

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago (edited)

Have you ever had bread left overnight or even several days in a corner of your kitchen? If this is the case, keep them because they can be used in a whole new recipe.

Bread usually gets dry and tough overnight. But I have never thought of getting rid of it because I am lucky enough to inherit a recipe from my auntie which turns that undesirable bread into something very delicious on the table.

I forgot to capture every step but I believe that you can visualize the image while following my instruction:

  • Cut the old bread into slices and dry it under sunlight or by using an oven for time-saving
  • Steam the sliced bread until it is soft. This step just takes around a couple of minutes and I am pretty sure that you will really enjoy the texture of the bread after being steamed.
  • In another pot, fry ground meat (it is up to your preference whether you go for pork or beef) with chopped onion, jamaica, and wood ear mushroom and seasonings.
  • Place the fried mixture on the top of the steamed baguette, and it's done. Isn't it simple, huh?

  • The steamed baguette is served with lettuce, cucumber, and herbs. It is best to make it in a roll so that you can taste the whole combination in one bite.
The source should not be missed for this dish. In Vietnam, we are lucky to have the magic "nước mắm" and when it is added with ground garlic, chilli, lemon and a bit of sugar, it boosts your appetite to a great extent.

One interesting fact about steamed baguette is that although it is originated from Southern Vietnam, the recipe is among some of the very rare ones and even cannot easily be found in local restaurants.

So far, this dish has become addictive to me. Such a recipe can not only add a new colour to your daily meal but is also a solution to food waste. Hopefully, it will be well-received by many.
