Yummy hearts

When my son was small, a distant relative used to say to him: I will eat your heart. I was horrified by that saying 😂 but she claimed that she was saying it out of love, out of tenderness. I think in the English language it has a negative connotation, however, in my native language, it means the opposite. You want to say that someone is sweet so you could eat that person and it's heart. I don't know... it is strange for me, I have never used that saying but I do remember it lol.

The only heart I gladly eat is a heart-shaped yummy cookie that my mom bakes. She made them when we arrived here as she knows how much I and my son love them. Yesterday, in her kitchen I made it, using her recipe. Two baking trays of hearts!! 💙

My son was around and noted down the recipe, translating it already so it was fun. He wrote that recipe as if it were a literary text, ready for a competition, or to publish a book out of it. We will see if he will ever prepare it. My part was done, and I have the proof.

In a big bowl, we measure 750 grams of flour. Make sure your kitchen scale works well... with ours we had to improvise sometimes.

The measuring activities continue with sorting out 250 grams of margarine or butter and 100 grams of pork fat (if you don't have that ingredient, it can be replaced by more butter or margarine.

The landscape of this bowl is getting more interesting. Here I added 200 grams of sugar, one little package of baking soda, a bit of vanilla sugar, 100 ml (half glass) of milk and five egg yolks.

It was all clean until now. From this step, I had to dip my hands in this mass and knead.

Ok, that was just the beginning, it got better later. It was a real workout... knead, knead, knead and you will get it good. Then you embrace it and continue kneading for some time.

When the dough was ready, I divided it into two parts and let it rest for a bit. Not because it needed to rest but because the oven was busy with another cake that my mom was preparing at the same time. Cool, time to take a photo of the sleeping dough.

Two tools arrived in the meantime to help the process. A small rolling pin and a heart-shaped mould.

The real fun starts here as you just have to roll out the dough and use the mould. It is like playing - if I were a little girl. The difference is that I am a bit older little girl. 😂 We can play anyway. The order is always the same: roll, cut out the hearts with the mould and repeat until you spend the dough.

This is an action and reaction thing. Mould, cut out, leave a hole in the dough, and make a new heart. Well, that is not all, as later the hearts will have to go to the oven, but it comes a few steps later.

Do you think the same as I do that baking is like art? 😆

As there is always leftover dough, it is kneaded again and as I said, the process is simply repeated.

What is still missing here is the part when we paint (again artistic activities) the hearts with one egg white and sprinkle the heart-shaped cookies with sugar. You can skip this step though.

You should definitely not skip the part of placing all these hearts on a baking tray (with baking paper on it) and place it in a preheated oven. We had the oven already ready when my mom took out the other cake when she prepared it. My heart could get some heat...

They became a bit chubby. 😂

It should not be a problem when the moment to eat them comes... the problem is if I become chubby after eating these biscuits! ^{Do you think I will eat all these hearts?}

My daughter just learned how to spot hearts everywhere. Whenever she sees on she yells Heart loudly lol. She saw these cookies on my screen and shouted heart heart!
