Donuts, A Food From The Netherlands Adapted by the United States

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago (edited)
Some time ago I made donuts. Before I share this recipe, let me tell you a little about the history of donuts. This food was popular in the 1990s in Indonesia. At that time, there was a donut cart from the United States in 1985. It was round in shape with a hole in the middle and was smeared with various toppings
---
It is often served as an afternoon snack accompanied by tea or coffee. In fact, donuts are good for breakfast. This food actually comes from the Netherlands. The Dutch call this food "olykoeks" which means oil cake. This food was present in the early 19th century in the Netherlands. At the time, donuts were balls of pastry fried to a brown color with lard. In the Netherlands, this fried bread is usually filled with fruit, raisins or something else.

However, there were Dutch immigrants who settled in the United States, their tradition of making fried bread continues. Later, it was influenced by other cultures and continued to metamorphose into donuts. The person responsible for shaping this food into rounds and holes is Hansen Gregory. Hansen became the captain of the American ship in 1847. He made a solution from Dutch donuts which were round in shape because they were a bit sticky and needed to be cooked.
---
Gregory punched a hole in the center of the dough that had not been fried. This hole is inspired by the ship's rudder. From another story, it was narrated in 1809 by Washington Irving, A History of New York. In 1920 a Russian-born immigrant named Adolph Levitt developed the first automatic donut machine. The machine was exhibited at the world fair in Chicago in 1934. Because of this machine, donuts were famous throughout the country.

Today, donut shops have become a vast and dominating world. Even the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts have become donut towers over the last decade. Because this food trend continues to grow. In fact, there are some specialty shops that make homemade donuts in a variety of flavors and toppings.

In Indonesia, in 2013 there was a rapid growth for potato donuts. Everyone goes to these things and makes their favorite potato donut. The texture of these donuts is softer and chewy compared to flour-based donuts. Potato donuts are also safe for diabetics.
