Patsitivity's Palate: East meets West

Christmas Dinner with my boyfriend's friends

One of my boyfriend's close friends came home for Christmas. She's currently based in New Zealand but comes home every Christmas. It has been customary that they'd spend quality time with the rest of their friends every December. My boyfriend was supposed to join their quick trip to Bantayan Island but with his nearing flight to Singapore, time wasn't on his side. He arranged a quick dinner to at least see his friends before leaving Cebu for Singapore. Plus ones were invited, so I tagged along.

They chose this Japanese Restaurant called Sachi (Sachi Authentic Japanese Ramen And Okonomiyaki) with a branch in M. L. Quezon Ave, Mandaue City as the meeting place. I've only tried Sachi in IT Park, Cebu City once and I haven't had Japanese food in a while. I was looking forward to eating ramen that night.

My boyfriend and I were the first to arrive; everyone else arrived one after the other. We ordered ramen, tayokayi, gyoza, and pork curry. It was all so good plus the prices are very affordable!

The Weekend with Bogo Fam

Another Christmas, another reason to come together and celebrate. If everyone’s time permitted, we would’ve rented a place or went to one of our friend’s place, spent a night there, played games, exchanged life updates and stories and laughed at each other’s nonstop jokes or lack thereof. Unfortunately, we could only spare a few hours for dinner. Nonetheless, I took the opportunity to gather everyone.

The next day after eating Japanese food at Sachi, we met with my friends at an upscale restaurant known for it's western cuisine. I wanted to try Bell+Amadeus but they couldn't get the 15 of us seated next to each other. It's a blessing in disguise as I've heard negative reviews about them later on. Still, this restaurant is on my list of must-visit restaurants in Ccbu City.

We went to this restaurant called The Weekend and it was the best choice ever! Their staff was the most accommodating; they were very patient in taking orders of a big group like us. Changes were made along the way but they're very kind to adjust as we went along.

Food at The Weekend isn't cheap but for what you're getting, I'd say the price is on point. Let me share with you what we ordered and how much we paid for each one of them:

  • Not a paella for two - Php 950 ($ 16.38)
  • Swined chicken - Php 650 ($ 11.21)
  • Big Bacon Breakfast - Php 550 ($ 9.48)
  • Angus Short Rib - Php 950 ($ 16.38)
  • Weekend Burger - Php 650 ($ 11.21)
  • House fries - Php 495 ($ 8.53)
  • Fat bastard - Php 950 ($ 16.38)
  • Onion Rings - Php 495 ($ 8.53)
  • Jupiter's Acorn - Php 575 ($ 9.91)

I've tried what my friends ordered but I'd say the one I got which was Fat bastard was my favorite of them all. The meat was tender and oozing with classic grilled pork flavors. The swined chicken came close at 2nd place. The swined chicken has this unique taste and texture but the familiarity from the Fat bastard won my heart, well at least, during this visit.

Of course, we couldn't let the night end without dessert. The good thing about 88th Avenue is it offers everything you might need in your food hunting. We transfered into a nearby cafe called Tom n Toms Coffee. It was a fun night with my friends.
