It is the 1st of September today and time to harvest squash, pumpkins, and gourds. I didn’t get a great pumpkin and squash harvest because the vine plants were under heavy attacks from weevils. Nasty beetles that suck the life out of vine and stalk plants like sunflowers. I will put my summer gardens to sleep being mindful not to give homes to hibernating beetles. All plant matter will be burned and given back to the dirt.

Gourds will be cured and used as bird houses and painting projects for the grandchildren 🎨

I’m canning chicken, chicken stock, some squash and pumpkins, and old potatoes that need to be eaten. I use a seven quart, All American canner. In my opinion the toughest pressure canner made.

This is a convenient way to prep food that does not store well and use it for a quick meal. The liquid with the cubed potatoes is chicken stock. The canned food last a year and is ready to use! I can mash or use the cubed potatoes in soups or stews. The canned squash and pumpkin can be used for pies, bread, and soups.

This last Sunday I made cookies to pay my Husband for his share of chores. Yes, he mows the lawn for cookies.

I’m working on the upper branches of the Norse Tree of Life, the Yggdrasil. I should finish the tree today in-between bouts of canning.

What a way to start out your September!

Harvest time for all those squash makes for some good eating now and through the winter as you jar them up so well. I have to do the same with my tomatoes and figure out what to do with such a bumper crop of green beans!

Such insane detail in that painting too!

Awesome stuff once again.

The kids and I used to sit down together and prep green beans for canning. Break off the vine end and snap into bite size pieces. We always had a fun time talking and snapping beans. My beans didn’t do well but this is my first year with new raised beds. Next year will be better! Tomatoes I skin and seed, cook into pulp and can for sauce. It’s an easy process once you get it down and the work flows! Thank you ❤️🙏 I love the fall 😂

Winter is coming in my country. And then we can get a plenty of fresh vegetables. But now it is very hard to get variety of vegetable. May be maximun 5 kinds of vegetrable i can get in market now. I don't like to eat protein type food. So it is very painful for me. However I think you have a delight in harvesting.

Canning your home yard vegetables are also seen previously, its very important to preserve your own growing food and vegetables, its give you extra peace in mind!
