GOT A BIRTHDAY INVITATION: LET’S EAT ONE OF EXOTIC FILIPINO DISH, "TAKYONG" (clean snail)

Whoa! Just received a message through Facebook messenger. Good news, it’s a dinner. I asked right away what’s the occasion, and my friend said calmly, it was her son’s birthday. Wow, another native chicken to eat Hivers. When we were about to go there, I kept thinking about what to bring for the birthday boy. By the way last night we had an agreement with my husband, and this agreement was something like a rule, “NO WALLET” when we have to stroll just nearby places, we need to leave our wallet at home to avoid expenses. Funny though, but it’s true, but I don’t know until when I can handle this kind of rule, lol. Back to the invitation, so, because of that, I left mine at home and went to the house of my friend with no something surprise for the birthday boy. What made me puzzled was that my husband brought his wallet, huhu huhu, I was tricked by this man. Continue, and yes, a lot of simple foods to eat, simple but delicious, I will mention here one by one.

NATIVE CHICKEN

I wondered why the soup is a different color, they said it’s a different cooking process. What’s making this cooking unique is, that they add different veggies, Usually, we add lemon grass but this one is not only lemon grass. By the way, in cooking a native chicken, we only have 30 minutes of medium fire using wood, depending upon what kind of chicken you’re preparing.

Condiments

Onion and Garlic

Have first these two: onion and garlic. Remember my question to the a.k.a. chef for this dinner? Why different colors? It’s because they saute first the onion and garlic in oil and it has a pungent smell. Add soy sauce making your food tastier. Do you know what is the health benefits of onion? It lowers your cholesterol level and many more.

Soy sauce

This is the reason why from the usual color which is plain color or clear soup, this chicken stew is different, this food they are cooking is added with soy sauce for another set of taste to taste. You can use also soy sauce in place of salt this gives a deeper color compared to salt.

Salt

We cannot say NO, to this, it’s salt, the main ingredient for cooking or any foods you want to serve for the family, Just use this in minimal because all of us know that this is not good for our health just use a small amount enough to taste the food.

Vetsin

This condiment is widely used by people here in the Philippines, this is also known as MSG. It enhances the flavor of the foods, especially this chicken.

Ginger

I don’t like this one to eat, but to make this Tea, I love this one. Please do not overcook it if you're planning to use it in food.

Onion leaves

Cut this one to pieces and add it to give a nice aroma in your cooking, this is considered an herb that can be used in many dishes.

Lettuce

My favorite, when dinner is served, I tell them if it’s okay I will consume it all by myself. This vegetable has a good source of beta-carotene. This is also used for salads if you want it with mayonnaise. I usually saw this veggie in pork meat, surprisingly, this is also applicable to chicken meat. Wow, another learning!! After 30 minutes of cooking the chicken, you may add this veggie and please you only have to half cook these since this is a vegetables.

Our second food to taste – EXOTIC "takyong or takdong"

In their place which is Barangay Bagacay, they called this “takyong” but the place where I grew up is “takdong”, but still they are the same. We can cook this one in different ways, My favorite is making this takyong cooked or boiled in water and after cooking dip it in spiced sauce. Others like this are cooked like adobo and also spiced takyong sauteed in oil with onion and garlic with salt to taste, in short, halang-halang (chicken spicy stew).

Pork menudo

Another set of food to taste is menudo, my husband’s favorite.
The ingredients to prepare:

• One kilo of Pork
• One Potato cut into dice
• One piece carrot cut into cube
• One cup of soy sauce to add color and also if you don’t like to use salt in your food

Cakes are considered a tradition for all people to prepare on the table especially birthday, not only birthday but also you can prepare this one for occasion. I love chocolate flavor, but the cravings are different when we are still a kid, When we get matured, the limitation is interrupted, and we are warned not to eat too much.

Wow, I miss this food for long! This snail is clean and edible... This kind of snail never touches the ground, if it happens, it will die. It only eats leaves.

I am not used to eat takdong before because there is no takdong in our place but now I tried to eat takdong and I am craving for that food. I remembered cooking that in school for our lunch and I really enjoy eating that exotic food.

This exotic food is very popular especially in my place.😊 I haven't tried it yet but according to my colleagues, it tastes delicious.

I don't like to go out without a wallet because sometimes there are inconveniences and it is necessary to have money, at least your husband has a wallet, that's reassuring.
