'Pani Puri' - Popular local street food after ages!

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago

Panipuri is one of the best street food you can have in Bangladesh. It's filled with chickpeas with a whole lot of spices & green chillis. The tamarind sauce adds a tangy-sweet taste. Your mouth will explode with all the different tastes of the puri.

The fact is, you may not find this food anywhere in the restaurant but only on the roadside vans and carts. So we have to enjoy it on the street or takeaway for home.

I guess, there's no need to explain why we all avoided street food for many days. I still don't feel comfortable eating on the street or taking food from the street cart. But while coming across this cart in my locality, I couldn't resist but ordered some. My mouth was watering seeing the puries.

Let me share my experience...

The fluffy round-shaped crispy thing is called 'puri'. And the sauce is what we call 'Pani'.

This is the setting of the van. You can see the amount of spice and chillis there.

I know, I know it doesn't look very hygienic because it's not!

The whole cart is open, all the ingredients are probably got a good amount of road dust as well. So I wouldn't recommend anyone to have this food, especially in this pandemic. But you know, I couldn't resist but take away some after many many days.

chilies!

And more chilies on the tamarind sauce!

My order is being prepared.

They usually give you 15 puries with some sauce for only $0.30. Yeah, this is how cheap the food is. But don't think it tastes bad because of the price. I wouldn't say this cart serves the best puri in the town but it was definitely worth trying. Also, this food costs almost the same all over the country and is vastly popular because of its crispy, tangy-sweet flavor.

I bought some home, was not feeling comfortable taking off my mask and eating them on the street.

There's an Indian version of PaniPuri, you may have seen that on screen, I don't know. Those are big and filled with more sauce than filling. Our version is smaller and filled with chickpea filling and a small amount of sauce. I have tried both and both of them are good.

I hope your mouth also watering as well like me, I'm still feeling like having some while writing this post. That's the magic of PaniPuri!

I seldom eat street food because of a bad experience I had. I had a very bad stomach ache after eating some fish balls from a cart. It took a long time before I tried street food again. In deed it is very hard to resist. I love the colors on your photos.

Aww, so sorry to hear that.
I understand. There's always some risks of getting food from street. I guess we are too used to it that's why usually never face the problem.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

The cooler water looks colourful...I am not big fan paani puri...but during my school days I had a lot of them....as it was served with 5 different types of water.....i loved the different tastes

Hehe...We girls have a different tatse buds that always goes for something tangy.

It's same everywhere.😉....not sure why and how they got so liking for it...since young age....my 7byears old is also like to eat but in pandemic time I just avoid it

That's how the hormone works 😅
Lots of love for your little one :)

oh my God!

I can't wait to visit Bangladesh, food makes one happy a lot, unlike me, when once I see a good cook meal, I will not be myself anymore 🙈

Because I would be imagining of the taste and would want to taste it as well🥰

Hahaha... You are very welcome to visit 😊
Don't worry, we all have something special in our locality.

Smile that is good to hear 😍

This looks SOO GOOD. The food and ingredients were really fresh I'm guessing. Where is this place exactly?

It's inside Banasree.
It felt good trying this after many many days.

I've been wanting to try some for quite a while as well. It's been WAY too long since I've last had bhel puri/pani puri.

Yeah, I miss those days when we used to take a bowl of Pani puri every single day after class at the University of Dhaka. They have the best kind of puri there.
This never-ending pandemic made everything hard, now can't even think of eating something on the street.
Try it occasionally if you feel safe.

I totally get you, whether it be school days or Uni. After finishing up with classes, heading towards a bhel puri/pani puri or jhal muri stall would be the first thing on our minds.

The trend still goes on to this day. I absolutely love seeing kids line-up outside of the schools, just like we used to. Hopefully it stays this way forever.

I myself, at the present will manage somehow, pani puri or no pani puri. Survival and staying healthy is top priority for now hahaha. Cheers 🥃

Absolutely!
Now when I see kids outside school enjoy these spicy street foods it makes me smile. Those the the good old days we all will cherish for a long time.
Have a wonderful day ☀️🌸
