Hello, my beautiful bees. I hope you’re all doing great. 🤗 I’m doing fine and having a pleasant morning.
Last afternoon, for lunch I enjoyed my favourite meal. As I was chomping on the very delicious (as they call it in Konkani) - “Sanna ani Sorpotel”. This is a combination of Idlis (Sanna) and Pork Sorpotel.
Pork Sorpotel is basically a smashed mix of different parts of pork meat, including the heart, offal, liver, intestines, fat and other parts. Some add pork blood into this too, which makes it even tastier.
The dish is originally of Portuguese origin and is commonly prepared in regions of Mangalore, Goa and has now gained popularity among the Mumbaikar Christian crowd. The dish has a very tangy and spicy taste. There are many variants experimented by the Goans, Mangaloreans and East Indians.
The name “Sorpotel” is derived from the word “Sarapatel” which means to be in a confused state. This is because the dish is a mix stew of different parts of pork meat.
The dish is very popular in the Konkan regions of India and is an indispensable part of most of our feasts, functions and gatherings.
Let’s take a look at the recipe :
Preparation time: The dish usually takes 45 - 60 minutes of cooking
Serves: 4 people
Ingredients required:
Pork Meat - 1 kg (with liver and other organs preferred)
Chopped Onions - 1 cup
Chopped Ginger - 1 pc
Chopped Garlic - 6 cloves
Chilli Powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Black Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
Cumin Seed Powder - 2 tsp
Vinegar - 1 tbsp
Tamarind soaked in water
Green Chillis - 2 pcs
Oil
Salt to taste
Instructions:
1: Boil the meat with water, 1 tbsp vinegar and pinch of salt on medium flame and 1 tbsp Vinegar for about 30 minutes.
2: Drain the meat and keep the water for later use.
3: Cut the meat into small cubes and fry it on low flame for a while.
4: In a vessel, fry onions, green chillis, ginger, garlic and add the spices. Fry this 4-5 minutes.
5: Add the meat and the drained water. Mix and cook it well for about 45 - 50 minutes or until it thickens.
And the very delicious Sorpotel is all ready. Enjoy your meal!❤️

Mmmm
😋
This looks good. Perfect with newly cooked steamed rice. We have all the ingredients here I may give it a try one of these days. The tamarind is an interesting addition to the flavor. Would the regular cumin seeds work?
Yes, it is a great combination with steamed rice. Regular cumin seeds will do just right. You should definitely try it out. I’m sure you’ll love it.😄 Thanks for the read.
