Just recently, a new multi-cuisine fine-dine restaurant got established in Mangalore. It is the new pit stop for a high-end dine-in experience in the city. 🍣
I had the privilege to be invited for the soft launch of the same to share my reviews. It’s always a pleasure to try new stuff out and this was an experience just as great.
The Urban House quickly created hype in Mangalore and has been now known as “the new sushi place in Mangalore” xD. This is largely due to the dearth of good Japanese or Pan Asian restaurants in Mangalore.
Parts of the ambience are quite elegantly redesigned. It’s an ideal place for a family dinner.
📍 This restaurant is located on the Ground Floor of Parin Complex, Balmatta which was previously known as the club G-Dot.
The food was pretty standard. I was impressed with the sushi and the bao. They serve Mexican, Pan Asian, Indian and Coastal cuisine as well. The seafood was well done and enjoyable.
The service was a tad bit slow though. If you’re in a hurry to get somewhere else, wouldn’t recommend this place.
Here’s my experience with the food -
Feta Melon Squares 🍉 (Veg)
Watermelon slices in Spanish balsamic dressing and Greek feta dish - this was a very average dish. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Open Bao - Chilli Chicken Bao & Barbeque Veg Bao 🥙 (Veg)
Absolutely loved these. A dish consists of 2 bao buns.
The chilli chicken was juicy and well seasoned and every bite was a blast of flavours.

The barbeque veg was stuffed with grilled vegetables and was equally delicious.

The Original Cheese Fondue 🫕 (Veg)
This is a dish that tasted divine (as long as the crunchy croutons lasted at least). It’s burnt brown garlic and cheese fondue served with croutons and pita bread to be dipped. Once you’re done dipping, the dish also makes a nice gravy along with the main course. A bit pricey one tho.

Burrah Chop Lazeez 😕
Marinated lamb chops cooked in a Tandoor - Although the marination was upto the mark and the taste was pretty good, the quantity of meat on it was simply disappointing. It was an all bone, barely any meat situation.

Sushi 🍣
Now, for the stars of the event - I had the following:
(Sushi is an acquired taste. So if you generally don’t like sushi, you might have a different experience with it. But here’s how I felt about it.)
Teriyaki Chicken California Roll 🥩
This was my No.1. These were flavourful melt-in-the-mouth bites. The chicken was cooked well enough and the rice complemented it well.

Spicy Mango Crab Stick Sushi Roll 🦀
The tender crab meat with the flavours of mango fused with spices gives a very distinctive and appealing taste.

Fruity Avacado Nigri 🥑 (Veg)
Lovely presentation and the dish was quite yum too. A little lack of flavours but definitely better than most places I’ve tried sushi at.

Coastal Seafood 🐠
For a multi-cuisine restaurant, they sure did nail the fish. Here’s what I tried:
-Anjal Tawa Fry
-Prawn Ghee Roast
-Pomfret Uppumunchi
The seafood was fresh and the flavours were on point.

Salad Quinoa 🥗 (Veg)
Quinoa with avocado in honey lemon dressing - for a salad, this was a good mix.
✅Value: 7/10
Crape Fettuccini 🌟
Flat fried noodles with dark chocolate sauce & vanilla ice cream - definitely adding this to my list of favourite desserts. It was a delight. The combination of vanilla and dark chocolate with the crispy noodles was heaven.

Chocolate Fondue 🫕
Chocolate ganache served with marshmallows and cut fruits - Would not recommend this. Once you’re done dipping, the rest of the ganache is too sweet to have.

Lamb Gallouti Kabab
Minced lamb patties - the meat was tender and well seasoned.

Peri-Peri Paneer Tikka
Cottage cheese marinated with spicy Peri-Peri Masala - the paneer was soft, absorbing the marination well.

Assorted Fries Basket 🍟 & Assorted Papad Platter
Fries - Classic salted fries, crunchy zig-zag fries, potato wedges and peri-peri fries with six types of dips - make a good starter.
Papad - Four different varieties of papad (Indian fried dough crackers) with six different dips.
💰 ₹175 (2.21 USD)
✅Value: 7/10
Drinks - Blue Curaçao & Classic Mojito
The drinks were average.
