You didn't see this coming, did you? Neither did I but I've been looking into old stuff and found out tons of my mom's old recipe books. I gotta eat anyway, so why not have fun in the process, learn and share some ideas?!
Let's start with a fairly simple 'chicken soup with "buns"'.
🇵🇹 Não estavam à espera desta, pois não? Nem eu mas tenho andado a ver coisas antigas e descobri livros e receitas da minha mãe. Tenho de comer, portanto mais vale divertir-me durante o processo, aprender e partilhar umas ideias.
Vamos começar com uma sopa de galinha com pãezinhos.
Ingredients / Ingredientes:
chicken | frango |
1 onion | 1 cebola |
bread | pão |
ham/sausage | presunto/linguiça |
3 eggs | 3 ovos |
oil | óleo |
salt | sal |
mint | hortelã |
1 - Boil the chicken with the onion and salt.
2 - When ready... discard the bones and tear the meat to pieces! 🔪 and put it back into the pot. (low temperature)
1 - Cozer o frango com a cebola e sal.
2 - Quando estiver pronto, desossar, partir a carne em bocados pequenos e voltar a pôr no tacho. (baixa temperatura)
3 - Make mini-sandwiches with the ham/sausage: Check the first photo.
Fazer mini sandes com o enchido: ver primeira foto.
4 - Get the eggs. Two yolks are for later (but scramble them). Scramble the other yolk and the three whites.
5 - Next, the bread enjoys an egg bath...
6 - ... and goes to the hot oil. (Bread too oily? Use kitchen paper to absorb the excess fat.)
4 - Mexer duas gemas e reservar. Em separado, mexer a outra gema com as 3 claras.
5 - passar o pão pelo ovo...
6 - e fritar em óleo quente. (Tirar gordura em excesso com papel absorvente.)
7 - Back to the chicken. Bring it to a boil and slowly pour the yolks while stirring.
7 - Levar o frango a levantar fervura e juntar lentamente as 2 gemas batidas, sempre mexendo."
8 - Adjust the salt if needed and serve with mint leaves.
8 - Rectificar o sal se necessário e servir com folhas de hortelã.
9 - Be proud of your creation. Have fun. Shut up and eat! 😋

That's a very unusual recipe as I normally have french toast as a sweet meal with syrup and loads of butter. Are these traditional Portugese recipes?
btw, do you know how to make Bolo de Bolacha? My local cafe is run by a Portugese lady and she does an amazing Bolo de Bolacha, I need to get the recipe off her one day.
It's more or less traditional. But most of the old recipes I found are. I'm sure your bolo de bolacha recipe is here somewhere. If I have the skills to do it... that's a different story 😁
