What else says "hello, it's a wintery day in Wisconsin, and we need to make a Sunday meal" than a crockpot feast? For this #foodie adventure, we decided to go old-school crock pot and simmer up our CSA pork bratwursts in our beloved slow cooker. The best part about this recipe? It's easy (and I mean super easy).
First up, I took a white onion and cut into it rings:
I then threw a tablespoon of grass-fed, non salted butter into our cast iron and put the stovetop on medium-high heat:
Then placed the ringed onions in and sauteed for roughly five minutes:
The smell was wonderful, as always...once complete, I dished the onions into the base of the crockpot.
Now on to the brats...here were the brats from our meat CSA:
I turned the stove heat to high, put another tablespoon of butter into the cast iron, and seared the sausages for about 3 minutes per side;
Once seared, I too placed them into the crockpot and placed a few onions on top:
Easy enough, right? Now the fun part :
I had two older cans of Pacifico left over from the summer; I took a sip from each for quality control reasons and then poured them into the crock pot.
A bit more butter...and abracadabra!
After four hours of slow cook time in the crock pot, the finished result was ready for the start of the second half of the Packers vs Cowboys game.
One can never go wrong with the rye buns for a proper brat dinner. The brats ended up being perfect; thanks to the beer and butter, there was very little dryness with this dinner. Delicious!
Thanks for checking out my #foodie post! With winter here, more crock pot shares soon!
