I usually wake up late so I skip breakfast. So typically my first meal of the day is around lunchtime.
This Saturday morning, I met up with a friend and had brunch together. She suggested this place in Marikina City. The place is called "Rustic Mornings", which is apt for its great ambience, homey vibes and all-day breakfast meals.
My pick to start the day -- a rice meal. Rice is a staple food in the Philippines. Most Filipinos would say, they haven't had a meal if they hadn't eaten rice. The rest would be treated as snacks (aka merienda).
Silog, Breakfast of Champions
Longsilog is a portmanteu of LONGanisa, SInangag, and itLOG.
Longanisa is a Filipino sausage, inspired by the Spanish longaniza, but has been adapted towards Filipino taste and ingredients. I would say the distinct tastes for the Filipino palate lean towards sweetness (i.e. sugar), garlic and vinegar.
Sinangag basically is garlic fried rice.
Itlog is egg.
Other versions of Silog are named based on the primary protein accompaniment. Examples: Tapsilog ("Beef Tapa"), Chiksilog ("Chicken"), etc.
The serving is generous and the longanisa seems home-made(?). I enjoyed it. Would want to try other options in the menu next time.
Omg is this a breakfast? My breakfast it's made of a coffe and a croissant 🥐🥐 🤣🤣🤣 this is a whole meal for me
