Anzac Day 2021
It's been a while since my last post here and sometimes I struggle with things to come up with to talk about.
I've just started a new job and that is also taking up a lot of my time.
Yesterday was Anzac Day. For those unfamiliar with it, it's the Australian and New Zealand day of rememberance of those who fell, and those that survived, the various wars and conflicts.
It's the equivalent of a combination of Rememberance Day and Veteran's Day in the USA.
It's one of the few things Australians feel patriotic about, outside of sport, and it is somewhat sacred.
The day starts with a dawn service. If people cannot get to the National War Memorial, they normally just stand at the end of their driveways and watch the sun come up.
There's a gunfire breakfast, but I've never witnessed it so I'd need to look what it is exactly.
There's usually a march down King William Street, but I with Covid 19 concerns it has been scaled back somewhat.
Local RSL clubs (Restired Service League) offer discounted beer prices throughout the day.
Games of "Two Up" (a gambling game) are often played as well.
Finally there's a ceremonial laying of the wreath, as a final rememberance of those lost.
Anzac Day Biscuits
Among the various local delicacies inspired by this particular day, the favourite and most well known have to be the Anzac Day biscuits. They aren't biscuits in the American sense but rather a form of cookie.
For plagiarism reasons, I won't post the recipe however it can be easily Googled and they are easy to make.
Not that I have ever made them... Chuckle.
The image above was taken at a local soup kitchen. They were made by a local volunteer by the name of Helen. I had one and they were soft and slightly chewy. Amazing!
The following meals were on offer at the soup kitchen (mentioned in a previous post) on Anzac Day.
Sausage, mashed potato, gravy, pasta and veggies.
Banana pudding, icecream and custard.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post.
There's another Adelaide Hive Meetup this Thursday from 6pm at The Jade pub.
I hope to see you there! Apparently @holoz0r has offered to pick up the tab.
Until next time,
see you in the kitchens!

I have regrets about the tab already.
I'll go easy on you.
Got a couple of new splinterlands players keen too. Should be decent weather. Looking forward to it.
I don't know how long I can stay now that I have early starts, but it should be a good one.
