Work Break Meals
It’s been a strange week. It started with news that a friend of mine, known only through the internet, had passed away in her sleep. Our friendship was intense but at the same time she had borderline personality disorder so things would run hot and cold. Her suffering is over now, may she rest in peace.
Then I spent the week working doing two jobs for two companies: ticket scanner and ticket seller.
I was selling tickets to the cricket on Monday and Tuesday evening and every day of the week scanning tickets for entry into the tennis.

The weather has been hot and I found myself both sweating and becoming deydrated occasionally.
Thankfully cold bottles of water were supplied and the Adelaide Oval provided “mist showers” to keep everyone cool. There were even big portable fans that would also spray mist when you walked past them.
There were water taps, and food vans and a lounging area with a massive screen TV showing the game.
The River Torrens can be a beautiful area
We have these little boats that are powered by people pedalling which turns a series of paddles underneath it and a rudder control in the middle.
Simply called "Paddleboats", they can be quite fun with two people pedalling away.
There's also a few large touring boats for sight seeing tourists called the "Popeyes". They are iconic.
They travel up and down the river itself.

The temperatures soared to near 38oC at times and I had a few hours between shifts. What I chose to do to keep out of the sunlight and the heat was to either spend time in the city library, or a restaurant or somewhere with air-conditioning.
One of those places was The Pancake Kitchen.
Inside was air-conditioned, but I dicovered there was an even colder room further inside on my way to the men's room.
A Coke Float known locally as a "spider"
The rest of the menu either didn't interest me or was outside of my budget, but I was there long enough to cool off before returning to work.
I also used the opportunity to explore the Central Markets and Chinatown Plaza.
You really have to inspect the fruit and veggies before you buy them in the Market as they can become mouldy very quickly in the heat. It's unfortunate that they aren't on top of this more with some stores. Not all of them, but you’d think a potential lawsuit would keep people on their toes.
I found a place called Food Mecca that has a myriad of small Asian restuarants to choose from.
I settled on Bay's Vietnamese Cuisine and ordered their Bhò Kho Beef Stew with a side of steamed rice. It was really good and the staff were really friendly.

After working at the box office, the temperature had cooled down to the point where I could have a burrito.
I headed into Zambero's and ordered a massive beef burrito and corn chips.

While I was there I ran into my friend Jac. He works as a bus driver for Adelaide Metro and has worked his way up to one of the supervisor levels. He was on his way to work while I was on my way home.
Just for the record, these foods were consumed over the course of a week. I didn’t eat all of this on the one day, although I can see where you could get that impression. Chuckle.
Right now it’s still somewhat hot and I need to cool off.
Until next time,
Thanks for reading.

I voted for your witness. I'll need to research how to make a witness server myself.
