Fine let's go this week's highlighted ingredient and it is Cardamom. The first thing that striked me was the so called 'payasam ' in my native language or the sweet porridge. With limited ingredients at your home,you can make this wonderful recipe in 10 minutes
Here goes the recipe.
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
- Vermicelli - 1 cup
- Sago - 1/4 cup ( soaked in water for 30 minutes)
- Milk - 2 1/2 cup
- Water - 1 1/2 cup
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Cashew - as per your requirement
- Cardamom- one tsp for aroma
Note : For all measurements the same cup should be used.
PREPARATION METHOD
STEP - 1
Heat pan in low flame. To it add cashewnuts and once golden brown remove it from flame.
STEP - 2
Now add Vermicelli to the remaining ghee. Once it turns golden brown add 2 1/2 cups of millk and 1 1/2 cup of water. Keep stirring with spoon, so that thick layer of cream is not formed.
STEP - 3
While it starts boiling, add the soaked sago balls and sugat, now let it boil for another 10 minutes. In between keep stirring. After 10 to 12 minutes you can see this recipe thickening and the quantity reduced from the initial start.
STEP - 4
Our main ingredient the cardamom and the roasted cashews should be added now. After 2 minutes switch off the flame.
Let it rest for a while to cool down. In the meantime, keep mixing it gradually so that thick layered cream is not formed on top.
Once cool down, enjoy this dessert with your dear ones. In my state this is called as payasam which we prepare for all Happy occasions and festivals.
Best time to have this is, after lunch or dinner.
