[KNIVES UP!!!] Chef Straykat Cooks No.9: Ground Beef with Pechay Tagalog *(Bok Choy)*

Welcome to Chef Straykat Cooks! Where I cook whatever comes to mind with whatever ingredients available! Sounds like disaster, isn't it? No, no, no! This recipe was tested and tasted by no less than the chef's exquisite palate! Lol!🫰🏻

As mentioned on my previous post few hours ago, I am making a dish with ground beef as the main ingredient. It's a simple dish called "Beef Giniling with Pechay" or "Ground Beef with Bok Choy".

This dish is easy to make with few and simple ingredients. It's basically ground beef with potatoes, bok choy in a flavorful soup. A great dish you can eat on a rainy day. In less than an hour, you can make this savory dish which you can enjoy as is or with warm rice!

~ GROUND BEEF WITH BOK CHOY ~

I'm not sure if I missed any ingredients as I have only cooked based on gut feeling. Ah, I can feel the chef instinct working! Lol.

INGREDIENTS

• 1 1/2 Cups Ground Beef
• 1 Cup Pechay Tagalog or Pechay (sliced)
• 1/2 Medium White Onion (diced)
• 2 Medium Potatoes (diced)
• 1 Beef Broth Cube
• 2 Tbsp. Cooking Oil
• 5 Cups Water
• 8 Tbsp. Fish Sauce
• 1 to 2 tsp. Black Ground Pepper

PROCEDURE

(1) Saute onion and garlic on a pot at medium temperature.

(2) Add ground beef. Flatten it on the pot and let it sit for a while before mixing it so the underside would cook faster. You'll know the meat is cooked when the meat has turned light.

(3) Add black ground pepper and mix. It's up to you how much pepper will you add.

(4) Then add water. Don't forget to stir before puting on the lid. Bring to a boil.

(5) When the water is boiling, it's time to add the broth cube. Based on my experience, the broth cube dissolves easier when the water is boiling and it doesn't settle at the bottom of the pot that much. Continue boiling for 2 minutes.

(6) Stir the dish before pouring the fish sauce or "patis". Bring to low temperature and let it sit for 10 minutes. (The amount of fish sauce I listed was just right for me. But if you're sensitive to salty taste, you can maybe just use 4 to 6 tbsp. Try to taste the soup after 4 tbsp of fish sauce to control the saltiness of the dish.)

(7) Add the potatoes and mix, then simmer for 15 minutes.

(8) Last, add the pechay tagalog or bok choy. Continue simmering for 5 minutes.

SERVE AND ENJOY!!!

Of course, serve it with warm rice! You can directly pour it over the rice or place it in a bowl so you can easily scoop the soup.

I also like adding some rice on the bowl and eat it directly from the bowl. I don't know why but this tastes better than eating it on a plate. I always do this when I was little. Do you also do this? :)

This recipe makes about 5 to 6 servings. I guess this is a perfect dish when you're on a budget as it would only cost you less than Php 300 or about $5.5 USD. So that's only about Php 50 to Php 60 per serving.

Until the next recipe! ♡♡♡

Hello @straykat Nice to see you are cooking pak choy too
In family, we almost add pak choy for many things. But often we cook pak choy for tofu.
Greetings

Thank you! I'll try a recipe with tofu next time! Thanks for the idea. I always eat tofu but never tried adding bok choy with it. Hehe

I need this right now 🥺. I have a fever 🥵.

You should take a rest 😬 Eat dishes with soup like this one or some porridge. Get well soon!

Thanks 👍
