Talunan is a distinctive Filipino meal created with various cuts of chicken, garlic, ginger, and a variety of spices cooked in a vinegar-based broth. The dish's name comes from a Filipino word that meaning "defeated," and it was originally made with roosters participated in one of the country's most popular activities, the fabled cockfights.
In the preparation of the dish, the cock that would lose or die in the fight was used. Talunan is no longer solely associated with cockfights, and it is now prepared in many Filipino homes.
