Hey Hive!
Now that a lot of people here have already gotten vaccinated, I'm very happy to hear that Singapore is now allowing in-house dining again, but up to 2 people and obviously you have to be vaccinated. However, we're still trying to stay safe and limiting our time out. Besides, work and my messed up sleep schedule due to streaming has been keeping us pretty busy so we've been doing more takeouts nowadays.
And recently, we went back to one of our favourite food courts at Woodlands Glen and tried out a new stall! I think the last time I wrote about this place was about 7 months ago, when we tried the Hakka Bowls at this stall called Ah Lock Kitchen!
The interior of food court is pretty nice and modern, with a natural wood aesthetic, mixed with red brick accents. It's also quite spacious despite not being very big and is quite comfortable but can be pretty crowded on weekends.
However, with covid restrictions we can only have 2 people at a table now, so we mostly do takeaways.
And since the last time I visited here the chicken rice stall had changed! Previously, it was this shop called Master Choi and now it's changed to this Hong Kong Style Roasted Delight called ๅไป (hua zi)!
It looks slightly more professional than Master Choi if I remember correctly, but their menus are pretty similar, as is the case for all these Roasted Delight stalls. Here's their menu:
And as always, they had a huge display window of all their roasted meats that looked and smelled so delicious:
They also have a built-in soup container at the counter with their own homemade soup that is free for all their customers to take! I thought that was so generous and interesting since it's something I've never seen at any other stall!
I think they offer two different types of soup depending on the day? One seems like fishball soup and the other is a healthy vegetable soup with carrots and corn. Both soups are pretty typical Chinese soups that Sean's grandmother has made and they're really nutritious!
And it must be a hit with customers since I saw a lot of people helping themselves to the soup, and one guy even brought his own takeout containers to bring the soup back too! Dang we didn't know they even had this or I would've brought a container too!
Anyway, we ordered bowl of boneless duck noodles since that was the Chef's Recommendation, and also a packet of roasted pork rice since that was what I was craving for.
Their packaging really matched the look of the store with that simple matte black design:
And this was the roasted duck noodle! It's a little messy in the takeout bowl but it smelled so deliciously saucy!
And this was the roasted pork rice!
I can't tell which one I liked better because both were sooo gooood!! The noodles were smooth and chewy and the duck while a little saucy and oily was tender and savoury!
The roast pork was also nice and crispy, with that sweet salty sauce. The top crispy layer of skin wasn't as thick compared to other places we've tried, but it was still really good and definitely worth buying again imo.
Overall, it was definitely a very delicious meal! And while I'm sad to see the previous roasted delight stalls leave (especially Roasted Master which arguably had the best roasted pork), I think this is a suitable replacement and is definitely popular. We'll have to try their soup next time we eat here!
Thanks so much for reading!
