TacoCat's TrEats #178: Enjoying Fine Dining at Gordon Ramsay's Restaurant! ๐Ÿฅ‚ [Part 1]

Hey Hive!

Even though there are still people getting covid, it's basically being treated like a cold these days so thankfully almost everything is back to normal now! There are no more restrictions on dining these days and you don't even have to wear a mask anymore if you don't want to! It's a huge relief and this allows us to try different food places again!

So a few months ago, we were watching this video by Safiya Nygaard (who is a lifestyle/travel/beauty youtuber ig), where she traveled to Las Vegas and stayed in all the hotels and ate at every Celebrity Chef restaurant there! It was a sponsored video of course but it was interesting seeing what Las Vegas is like through her videos since we've never been there and most likely never will.

Anyway, in her video she also went to Gordon Ramsay's restaurant called Hell's Kitchen (which I thought was only the name of his show) and it inspired us to go try his restaurant here in Singapore as well!

image.png

Gordon Ramsay's restaurant here is called Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. I think this is the only international branch of Bread Street Kitchen but he has a number of outlets in London.

The restaurant is located in Marina Bay Sands, the swankiest mall in Singapore known for its 5-star hotel with the rooftop infinity pool.

This is what MBS looks like on the outside. I'm sure everyone has heard of this place at least once since it's one of Singapore's most iconic landmarks now and it made history being such a huge integrated resort.

We typically don't come here very often since this is way too fancy for us, but thankfully we did have a $200 voucher to spend here and we'd been thinking of what to use it on when we got inspired to try Gordon Ramsay's restaurant from Safiya's video!

We got all dressed up and called ahead to make a reservation in case it was crowded since it is a famous celebrity restaurant. But we also went for lunch on a weekday so it wouldn't be so packed. I think we got there too early though and we were told to wait for our table to be ready.

image.png

The whole restaurant is really big, spanning two floors of the mall. They invited us in to sit on the first floor while we waited for our table to be ready on the second floor and it seemed a little cramped actually.

image.png

Just past the entrance on the left is this bar area with high chairs and an open kitchen.

image.png

On the right side of the entrance was this long table with a booth in the back. While waiting for our table, we took the time to peruse the menu and place our order since we would have to wait for the food to be cooked as well.

image.png

Here is the full menu. You know it's fancy when the menu is just full of words and no pictures. ๐Ÿ˜…

image.png

We thought we'd try his signature dish - the Beef Wellington since it's something we'd never buy with actual money. Since we had to wait at least 45 minutes for that we just confirmed our order that we placed when we made our reservation the previous day.

We also ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert since Safiya highly recommended it in her video and it's also one of Gordon's signatures.

image.png

After about 10 minutes or so, we were told our table was ready so we went upstairs. We thought we could go through from the restaurant itself but I don't think it's actually connected internally so we had to go out through the entrance again and up in the mall.

image.png

This floor of the restaurant was definitely a lot nicer and spacious. There were several small tables and booths, and thankfully we managed to get a table with a view!

image.png

The overall design was nice and welcoming too with dark and wooden furnishings. It had more rustic and relaxed vibes despite being a super fancy restaurant, compared to those Chinese restaurants in skyscrapers with big tables.

On the other side of the restaurant was the main bar area with lots of stools and of course the bartender counter.

image.png

It'd still be a while before our food was ready but thankfully we weren't that hungry at the time. Since this was a once-in-a-lifetime meal for us we made sure to take lots of pictures!

image.png

I felt we were a little overdressed since everyone looked to be in normal clothes but there were a lot of corporate people there in office wear to be fair.

Sean was getting a little hungry and we thought we'd be served free bread since it is Bread Street Kitchen after all. It turns out they did used to give a free bread basket for every table before covid, but now you have to buy it. It's only 4 bucks and is the cheapest item on the menu but still. We decided to get it just to see how good the bread was.

image.png

There was a selection of different breads like bread sticks, focaccia and a sourdough bun, along with a side of butter topped with sea salt.

image.png

It was actually really good and fresh. It wasn't super warm but still delicious!

image.png

I didn't really like the sourdough that much since I'm not a fan of sour stuff but the focaccia was really good! And the butter was nicely salted and smooth too.

image.png

We didn't eat too much bread since the beef wellington was coming and we needed to save space for it and dessert as well. And soon after, it was here!

image.png

It looked really impressive and the beef looked quite red that Sean was concerned. But since it was roasted and baked I knew it was probably okay. It came in 4 big pieces along with a side of fresh greens, roasted carrots and mashed potato.

It looked so beautiful we made sure to get all the pictures we could.

image.png

The lattice looked really impressive irl, and it did seem quite crispy. But the beef was a lot thicker than we imagined.

image.png

Time to dig in! This was our first time trying Beef Wellington and British food in general so we didn't know what to expect. The beef is also wrapped in a mushroom layer and some vegetable layer underneath the crust.

image.png

It had an interesting taste and the beef was tender, but I think it was a little too thick for me that it still required some extra chewing that was a little tiring after a while. The mushroom layer was very strong as well and a little overpowering. The crust did provide a nice textural contrast though.

image.png

I wasn't sure what the green layer was but the mushroom layer was too strong that it just became the main taste. The beef was tender and juicy but not really seasoned much imo. While the crust was good, I thought a light glaze on top with butter or something sweet would be nicer since it was a little bland.

image.png

I thought it was still good, but I don't think Sean enjoyed it as much. We agreed that we liked regular steak better. I guess we just didn't know what to expect taste-wise from this. But it was still a new experience and we tried to enjoy as much as we could. It was definitely a very filling meal though since I had trouble finishing my second piece. I think 3 people could've split the Beef Wellington actually and it would've been just right with dessert too.

image.png

Sorry to cut it off here but I think this post might be too long if I include the whole meal. So tune in next week for the dessert, more photos and my overall restaurant review!

I loved the review. I read it with my anxiety to finally see the food which looked great.

I think the wait was worth it in terms of the table you got, because it had a nice view.

As you say it is a unique experience, in my case I would love to have it but in my country Gordon does not have a branch. It's good that you were able to live it, I think you were very well dressed for the occasion. Very nice.

aw glad you enjoyed it! yes the view was great I'm glad we managed to get a good table, not sure if it was possible without a reservation but it wasn't too crowded at the time either.
aw thanks so much for reading! I hope you get to try it sometime soon!
