Hey Hive!
Now that a lot of people here have already gotten vaccinated, I'm very happy to hear that Singapore is now allowing in-house dining again, but up to 2 people and obviously you have to be vaccinated. However, we're still trying to stay safe and limiting our time out, at least around peak hour timings since I hate being around crowds anyway.
So we were deciding what to get for dinner the other day and neither of us were really craving anything, so we went on to FoodPanda to narrow down our choices. FoodPanda is a food delivery service here and you can order from a bunch of your local restaurants and food stalls through the app and they'll deliver it straight to your doorstep! It's really convenient and with vouchers and coupons we always use it whenever we're too busy or tired to cook at home.

Anyway, on the website we came across this shop called Burgerprek, which specialises in Western cuisine but with an Indonesian twist! We've never heard of this stall before, and I've personally never tried a Western-Indonesian fusion but it sounded intriguing so we decided to try it out!
We've never been to this stall before, but apparently this is what it looks like:

Apparently it's located at Woodlands North Plaza and is slightly hidden within a wet market. It's definitely not a place we've been to and probably won't so it's good that they're on delivery apps like FoodPanda.
Just looking at their pictures on the website was making me crave it so we decided to try their chicken burger and their beef burger. It seemed pretty affordable too!
Since the sauce was spicy we decided to try one of their special drinks too, and we decided on the honeydew milk!
About 20 minutes or so after we ordered, our food arrived! We just ordered a la carte since we didn't know what to expect so it was just the burgers and the drink. But we decided to air fry some frozen dumplings we had in our freezer too.
This was the chicken burger, with their special spicy Indonesian sambal sauce:
And this was the beef burger which came with black pepper sauce:
Both burgers come with an egg which was why we chose them instead of their special Burger Geprek, which just has a spicy chicken patty between two puns and their special geprek sauce.
Btw, geprek is Javanese term for "crushed" or "smashed", thus ayam geprek means "crushed chicken". It is quite similar to traditional East Javanese ayam penyet, as both are fried chicken smashed and mixed together with hot and spicy sambal chili paste.
So ayam geprek would look something like this:

Presentation-wise, it was pretty much what we expected from a hawker center burger place. And it definitely reminded me of a Ramly-style burger, since it was very saucy. Ramly is a pretty iconic Malaysian brand of burger and one you'd always find in night markets (or pasar malam) here.

Anyway, the chicken burger was actually really spicy because of the geprek sauce. Just look at all the little sambal chili pieces! The first bite was alright, but the subsequent bites got quite spicy. We do have a spice tolerance but when it comes to Indonesian sambal it gets a little too hot for us sometimes. It was still really yummy though!
The chicken was nicely fried and crispy but still juicy, the egg was a good complement to the chicken and the buns were soft and fluffy. It's just that the sauce got too hot for us after a while. I was pretty much sipping the honeydew milk (which was really good) after every bite of the chicken burger.
The honeydew milk was nice and sweet and the honeydew taste was actually pretty strong. It was a nice extinguisher to the spiciness of the geprek sauce actually, and really refreshing too!
The black pepper beef burger was pretty average, but the beef patty was juicy at least. We switched halfway since neither of us could take the spiciness of the chicken burger for too long. The black pepper sauce was nice though, but I preferred the crispiness of the chicken burger for sure.
We also air fried some dumplings which was filled with some vegetables. It was pretty good but the crust was a little dry after air frying. It was nice and crispy on the outside though!
Overall it was a definitely an interesting meal trying out Western-Indonesian cuisine for the first time! It was a surprisingly good combination, who knew!
If you ever have a hankering for some spicy burgers, give Burgerprek a try sometime!
