Seda Hotel at IT Central Bloc has a special place in our hearts as MBA Students. For one, it is where we met our dean face-to-face for the first time after a trimester of being online and second, we have a classmate who is a manager there so it comes with perks as well. It was one fine Saturday after our Organization Development Class when our Entrepreneurship professor asked to meet us there. The agenda for the dinner was to discuss about business opportunities that we can apply in our own pitched enterprises in the class. We got there a bit early so we went on to discuss council matters first before our prof arrived. It was a fruitful discussion, as expected from @jsmalila who spearheaded the meeting. A little after the sun went down, our prof arrived and we were then ready to start talking about business.
Buffet, you say?
A quick look at Seda Central Bloc's page told me that Lunch Buffet daily (12:00 PM - 2:30 PM) is at Php 950 net per person while the Dinner Buffet (Friday & Saturday | 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM) is at Php 1,149 net per person. We paid only Php 750 because of the perks of our Manager friend. Your network really is your net worth. One thing that I particularly enjoy about taking up MBA as graduate studies is the company. My classmates are unproblematic, they are always a pleasure to be with. I can imagine them having really stressful workdays but they don't let these carry over in their schooling. I'm really grateful for them.
Our professor is also one-of-a-kind. He is already in his senior years but he is still quite active and lives his life vicariously. We think he gets lonely sometimes that's why he initiates meetings like this but we don't mind keeping him company. He spouts wisdom every now and then and we always make the best out of them.
Misto is Italian for 'mixed.' The buffet was composed of appetizers, mains, and desserts. It was a food fest! My favorite part was their desserts, you will get me in a while. The soup bar is just at the entrance to the Misto dining area. All you had to do was pick some condiments and meat for your soup, have the staff cook and bring it to a boil, then have it delivered to your table once done.
True to my nature, I did not have the appetizer first, I was more of a main-course-first type of girl so I had the soup midway through my meal. The soup was good, it was just the right sourness from the pork sinigang that I could ever ask for. What I did not like however was the long waiting time for the soup. It could have been an isolated case but my soup took longer to prepare than expected. I didn't cause a scene and I just let the matter go.
The Japanese food items were among the fastest to go. Just look at the leftover assorted maki. For myself, I got shrimp tempura and it was okay. I have had better tempuras at Nonki Japanese restaurant. To be fair, they do not specialize in Japanese cuisine but what they offered was quite alright.
It was the other appetizers that surprised me. The tomato pesto was particularly tasty. Our professor found it really good too. I had two 😋 we learned a food hack from our professor too. If you wanted to wash off the greasy taste of meat, eat kimchi as a palate cleanser. We tried it with the roasted pig and it worked!
You could also pick a type of meat and ask for the staff to grill it for you. They offered choices from tuna, chicken, pork chop, pork belly, and seafood. I had the pork chop for myself. The grilling time was reasonable and you could make your own sauce with your own choice of condiments at the sauces station.
I was not able to take a picture of the rice and the breads. It would have been grouped in this section. Nevertheless, the pizza was also okay and I think I had a slice or two? Food coma got the best of me 😆 The pizza choices were Quatro Formaggio, Hawaiian, Pepperoni, and Margarita. What is your favorite flavor?
Creamy mustard fish, chicken orange sauce, and this other one, I forget. I blame it on the food coma again 😆 They were pretty generous when it came to the proteins. They offered roasted pork, their special Seda ham, steak, shrimp, and chicken. They also served the proteins with the French Fries.
These dessert bars will greet you upon entry at the Misto Dining Hall. It is just right across the soup station. However, I would say that this is not the real gem of the dessert buffet.
The real star of the dessert selection is found in a little corner a little further from the main courses - this ice cream bar right here. It offers the hotel's homemade ice cream which was heavenly by the way and their fluffy crepes.
We just had to try it! I remember being so full like I've never been in my life. It was a diet wrecker of a night. And because we couldn't choose whether we'd have the crepe or the ice cream...
We went with both and rest assured, no regrets were made right after.
As to the overall buffet experience, it was truly a posh one. I wouldn't say that I was attached to a main dish, they all tasted good but nothing out of the ordinary. The appetizers especially the tomato pesto came as a surprise. I would say that their strongest suit is the dessert bar - with the ice cream crepe that is the main star. One thing that you also have to note is that drinks are not part of the package, only service water. I remember that they charged a separate tab for my order of coffee.
