Many things happen that we think are unexpected, are actually our prayers in the past that we have forgotten. This happened to me again.
Since I was a teenager, I have loved watching television shows that feature travel and survival shows.
One day there was an episode of a trip to Turkey, and the presenter of the show bought the country's signature ice cream.
DONDURMA
From the broadcast, I knew that the name of the ice cream was Dondurma. And starting from that day, I said in my heart that one day I too can taste Dondurma in its home country.
After almost fifteen years later, I finally had the opportunity to visit Turkey, and taste the Dondurma that I had dreamed of since I was a teenager.
What's interesting about this ice cream is that, apart from having a chewier and softer texture than usual ice cream, it's also a unique way of serving it. The seller will perform attractions on the ice cream they sell by pulling and flipping the ice cream with a long spoon.
In addition to entertaining, this also invites the curiosity of buyers. How can the ice cream not fall? What is the secret behind this typical Maras city ice cream?
When I asked my tour guide, there were two additional ingredients used to make Dondurma.
In addition to milk and whipped cream, Dondurma also uses an ingredient called Salep. This salep is a flour made from purple orchids, and another ingredient called mastic. This mastic and salep sap is what makes Dondurma has a unique and different texture.
Here there are three flavors provided, chocolate, strawberry, and caramel. To satisfy my curiosity, I asked for a three-flavor mix variant. At least, I'm no longer curious because I've tried all the flavors.
Actually, the seller also offered me whether my ice cream would be mixed with nuts? I choose not. One Dondurma cone with three flavors I can finally enjoy.
The price of this Dondurma is TL-25 or IDR 32,500.
