Hi Everyone,

A visit to Japan without going to a sushi train means you haven’t been to Japan. After we arrived in Otaru, we were so hungry we needed to get something quick but also the food we love. Waraku Kaiten Sushi is just a short walk from Otaru Station but we parked our car next door at the parking lot so it’s easily accessible for those using public transport or driving like us. As we stepped inside Waraku Kaiten Sushi, we were greeted by the cheerful staff asking us to put our names down to be in line for the next available table. The restaurant was pretty busy but after a 20 minute wait, we were shown to our table.

Here you'll find an extensive selection of sushi and sashimi, showcasing the best of Hokkaido's seafood. Due to COVID, there is no sushi on the belt but we were given a menu with all the sushi available. There are also specials of the day so these are stuck around the counter so we could order them anytime. There is also a simple English menu for those who need it but we prefer the Japanese menu as it is more extensive.

We ordered a range of food and again, sushi train in Japan is super cheap compared to in Australia we feel like we are eating like kings. While we wait for our food, we helped ourselves with the green tea which you could make yourself at the table. There are two different tea powders ready for you as well as a tap with hot water. If you have kids just need to watch out but our kids are used to it anyways so they are very careful when making our tea. Also note there are two different soy sauces depending on your liking.

The food here is super fresh and was made quickly. There were only two sushi chefs managing all the sushi orders and they have done so well to keep up with demand and would make them according to how many plates you ordered. In particular, the toro, raw scallops, and obi are my favourite. We rarely get them in Australia so I am just enjoying as much as I can while being in Japan. Ikura is also my favourite so we cannot leave that off our list. My kids have grown to love Ikura during this trip, I guess they love Japanese food after all.

The restaurant does get busy during lunch periods so do prepare to wait in line for some time. I don’t think they take bookings for lunch but it is best to double check when calling in. We just drove past the restaurant so it wasn’t a planned lunch ahead of time. Price wise, very reasonable and food quality was top notch!

Did you also go to the music box museum in Otaru? :)

We didn't go this time but we did the first time we went and got a music box, its still sitting in my display cupboard haha

That's great... I haven't been there, but a friend gave me a music box from Otaru, so I was curious about the place. :D

Nice meal you guys had and the place looks beautiful ❤️
