Good afternoon, everyone!
Yesterday I went to a new restaurant (well, new to me, at least) and they had one of my favourite dishes: Açorda de tomate com ovos escalfados.
This is a specialty from the region of Alentejo and it can be roughly translated as "Tomato bread stew with poached eggs".
It's a hard sell since visually it looks horrible, many people won't even try it just by judging how it looks... but it's absolutely delicious. 😋
One of those cases of "don't judge a book by its cover."
How can I explain what this is...? Well, think of a vegetable stew with plenty of tomato and eggs... but with a more solid consistency since it's mixed with bread. 🥖
The dish was accompanied by fish fillets and some slices of lemon.
Usually, the waiters bring the dish from the kitchen already fully prepared but in this case, they actually ended the preparation right in front of us, by adding the eggs and mixing them up at the table. 🍳
A very nice detail.
The restaurant is near the Matosinhos beach and it's called "A Casinha" (The Little House).
If you're ever in the neighbourhood and you can't make a decision from the 400 restaurants in the area, try this one! 😆
The portions are quite generous and not overpriced.
As you can see by the decoration, this is perfect for wine lovers, as they have a huge variety of them. 🍷
