October is my boyfriend's birthday month so being the sweet and loving girlfriend that I am (am I?!), I'm treating him to good food. I like to eat and so is my boyfriend, though he's picky with his food.
He doesn't like surprises much, so I need to tell him what we're getting. 😅 It's his birthday after all, not mine. It should be his preference, not mine.
It was so hard to find a place to go. At first, I told him we're going to a luxury restaurant with overlooking views of Tokyo but when I checked my wallet and my outfits, I didn't think I would fit in. 😅
Next on my list was to go to a churrasco restaurant where we can eat lots and lots of meat, the Brazilian style. We had it one time in Shinjuku during Valentine's so I was skipping that restaurant on my list. Unfortunately, the restaurants I liked to go to were so full that day so we couldn't get a seat for the two of us.
In the end, we got a reservation in an all-you-can-eat restaurant in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. If you recall, Kabukicho is famous being the red light district in Tokyo and has been featured in many of my posts like this and this and many more. It's close to home, sorry!
The restaurant is called Momo Paradise. We never knew the ambiance of the restaurant would be so serene because it's located in Kabukicho. There were only a few people dining in at the restaurant. I guess it's the effect of COVID.
I felt so rich dining at this restaurant. The staff was explaining to us how ordering works and the meat, oh my, it's all expensive. The staff even cooked for us at first, then she left us on our own. I wasn't so used to this kind of treatment so I was really surprised.
Eating sukiyaki at home and in this restaurant is so different. Boyfie approves but he got so full easily after eating all the beef. Yep, he didn't eat the pork. I was left to eat all the pork by myself.
You can get refill vegetables too. There's a chip that you need to flip and the vegetable wagon will come at your table.
There were many vegetables but I couldn't eat them all so we just chose what we're familiar but we experimented on this one. I don't know the name but it's delicious. Need to cook fast though so this shouldn't stay long in the sukiyaki plate.
There were Asian sauces that you could go with the sukiyaki. They left us a small pamphlet detailing the sauce and what it goes with. I tried the sriracha and the sweet and spicy one. It's my first time having sauce with sukiyaki so I'm not sure if I liked it. Maybe sriracha is the best one.
Drink bar was included in what we paid for. I guess my boyfriend had more than 5 glasses of oolong tea. I was experimenting so I had lemonade and oolong tea.
The desserts were also included. They had ice cream and some japanese sweets.
We were so full of course. We had a good time in this restaurant. Their service was so nice! The staff was so polite and so attentive.
Aside from sukiyaki, you can also opt for shabu-shabu or yakiniku. If my wallet is capable, I think I'll come back to this place again.
A sumptuous meal for the birthday boy~
What's a birthday without a cake? This though was a surprise from me. He was so happy with the surprising cakes I got for him. He wasn't expecting them and his smile that time made my day.
He doesn't like sweets that much but he likes cheesecake so I got him cheesecake along with other small cakes. The chocolate matcha was for me 😅
Though he doesn't like sweets that much, he finished these cakes, including the choco matcha, not in one sitting though. I on the other hand, only ate small bits. I'm so happy seeing him so happy with what I got for him. 😍

As I was checking the voteme channel in HivePh discord I saw your post, and I was like "ooohh weee birthday!", "ooohh weee japanese food!", and the marites in me was like.. You had to cook your own food on that little hotplate thing? Wouldn't that take away some of the fun of dining out, if you're still cooking? 😳 I would be so lost if I ever visited Japan! There seems to be so many differences in basic culture as well as language. And even the foods there are so mysterious to me... for instance, you mentioned dango, which I had to look up. Wikipedia says:
Okay, "rice flour" is easy, it's dried rice that is ground to a powdery consistency, like flour. But then there is also uruchi rice flour and glutinous rice flour. If I remember correctly, "glutinous" rice is "sticky" rice like is used for making sushi rolls because the rice kernels clump together well. But I have no clue what "uruchi" rice might be and why it must be mixed with glutinous rice flour for making dango. One can't make dango from glutinous rice, alone? I could probably spend an hour or two digging through a "rabbit hole" of research on all of this before I begin to understand it all. And then, I would only understand this one dish, dango, and nothing more. And then there is "calpis" which was mentioned at the drink bar, which I've never heard of... there would be so very much to learn in order to survive in Japan! 😱
So, you have my respect for diving into this culture so thoroughly and thriving as well as you're doing! Of course, there might be some similarities with the culture of your homeland, moreso than I would have. But still, I have respect for you, lady! And thank you for sharing all of this culture & food & life with us! 😊

Sukiyaki is meant to be cooked on our own. The staff was just showing us how it works, but we already know how. I think every home in Japan enjoys sukiyaki. Good for the cold weather. It's kinda easy to do, as long as you have the sauce. You can just put whatever vegetables you like in the boiling sauce and the thin meat. Once it's cooked, you dip it in a raw egg that's beaten then eat it with rice. 😅
There are so many foods in Japan that I am not sure how to cook yet, or even don't know what's it made of. Dango I'm sure is made of flour but I don't know which flour. 😅 If you go to the grocery, there's so many kinds and I'm not even a great cook myself to properly understand them all. 😅
Calpis is a drink, it's kinda milky. I don't really drink it because it tastes weird to me. 😂 There are so many things I was also culture-shocked when I first arrived here, and maybe til now, I'm still trying to get to know a lot of stuff. It's fun to learn about Japanese culture so I really like it here. 😉
I think I would also have fun learning about other cultures when I'm in a different place.

Nice interior and wow! The place reeked of class! Do you think it doesn't have a lot of people dining in because of its location? No! People don't judge! Anyway, I am so glad he liked it, it really had a nice menu. I have never had sukiyaki out. The service was quite nice and I am glad you took a chance and tried it.
It is a place I can see going back to. Were the cakes there also? I thought it just might be their dessert section that you go to choose from. That was an all-you-can-eat place? Wow. I don't think it's because of the location. But it was kinda surprising to have something of this class in the red light. I honestly think their customers would be some kind of bigtime people who run business in the red light or maybe the bigtime customers. 😅 I'm influenced by many movies. LOL

There's a staff assigned to each table so they will be the ones who will bring the wagon. There are 2 kinds of wagon kasi, not all veggies are in 1 wagon.
